Today is my first day on the site and I was thinking the same thing!! It doesn't appear to be a site that is generating much debate or discussion....but, in all fairness, I haven't spent a ton of time on it yet.....that's just my first impression.
I'm an emergency nurse who went back to school to get my masters in nursing ed so that I can retire from our wonderful (smile) profession with some life left in me. Truly, tho, emergency nursing is in my blood and I keep in touch through teaching in a "new ED nurse" course at the health system where I'm employed and by working some casual hours. I teach in the med/surg component of a school of nursing and regale my students with tales of the ED......I've even converted a few!!!
Funny name. When I was in nursing school, we had a T-shirt especially made for a guy in our study group that said "Ridin' the short bus to nursing school." It was cute.....had a little, orange short bus drawn on it, driving down a highway. He was way more kind-hearted than those of us who thought up the idea for the shirt and paid for it (me, mainly...haha). He would only use it as an undershirt, for fear of offending any short-bus riders or family relations of short-bus riders. Haven't thought of that for a long time.....good memories.
I'm not sure how much I'll visit the site.....like most nurses, my days are so packed....but I will peek in when I can and see what is going on. So, this site belongs to you???? How does something like that happen??????
BTW, if you have the time, could you tell me how to use the smiley icons and different fonts/colors, etc? When I attempt any of that, I just get the command...not the choice that I made.
Hi all,
I just joined yesterday. I actually hadn't looked at how old the dates of postings were....silly me! Anyway, I'll keep browsing and posting and maybe we can get things moving again.
To be honest, I just figured out HOW TO POST; the page takes a long time to load. So, I'm sure that you'll get familiar with me yet. I'll warn you that on another site, I'm on the "warned" list; I can be controversial at times, sorry. I can't figure out the nurses that I work with who pretend that everything is wonderful (if the docs or managers are around), but the claws come out otherwise. A lot of them are very catty and cliquish(sp???). and I'm still surprised to see this (with nurses) I certainly expected better! It makes for a not so fun work environment. Anyway, I'm glad that I figured this site out, and am glad to be here. BTW, I can be a very nice person, which I generally am. I have a tendency to stick up for the underdog.....
MagRedC5, it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?

Obviously, I have not posted on this site in a looooong time. However, I'd like to start visiting more often. In fact, let me know if ya'll are in need of a Moderator.

I bet I can guess the other site! I, too, have a tendency to stick up for the underdog!
;) Yup, you probably guessed it! Thanks for the welcome; and thank you for serving our country. Although I am not a Bush supporter, I bow to all our Service men and women. Our country would not exist without you!
Try this forum Nurse-forum.com. The members seem to post a bit more than here on Ultimate Nurse. I think one reason is that the transition from one post to another is a bit easier to navigate than here. I hope this helps.
If you could NOT refer people to other forums from my forum, I'd appreciate it, especially in threads where people are already unsatisfied.
I'm trying really hard to make this a great place for nurses to go. It's not exactly cake. I know you're just trying to help, but I'd rather you help HERE!
Yeah, I joined 2 or 3 weeks ago, introduced myself. Got 34 replies but no responses.
No one would even say "Hey, there, how are ya?".
I was on the "other" site, also, I'm sure I'm thinking of the one you guys are thinking of. I got warned over there, too, and I thought it was unecessary.
I got "jumped" on for my opinons, it's like a person can't voice an opinion unless it is in agreement with the majority on the subject or on the thread.
Posters are supposed to debate the subject, not the poster. Doesn't work that way over there.
I was hoping to find a friendly place so I would have a "nurse" site to still visit, but this is not a friendly place thus far.
A forum is what you make it. Instead of breezing through the threads take time to answer a few with no replies. It is rather disheartening when you have taken the time to start a new thread to have not one single response what-so-ever.
Well, I haven't been around much with summer-school (I took prescriptive pharmacology this summer) and a little bit of vacation, but it's good to see I've had some company on this thread since I last dropped in.
Annie -- I envy anyone who can do the ED thing. I'm not good with surprises and any busy emergency room is full of surprises. I had an ED CNS who worked for me about 6 yrs ago who regaled ME with his stories of a downtown Philadelphia ED (the Philly Knife & Gun Club he called it) and that was enough to assure me I belong in pediatrics or psychiatry, not anywhere near the emergency department!
And to our serviceman/RN -- thanks for your post (and your picture). Hope this means you are state-side right now. I too, really appreciate what our armed services have done to protect the USA. No Bush fan here, but always a believer in the folks who put their lives on the line for their countrymen.
And Short Bus (whatever that means) -- glad you're on-board and ready for some excitement!
Ok, so let's talk about something.
Here's a few items that are on my mind lately. . . .
1. I'm coordinating our hospital's Magnet application process. We're having fun with it and, for a small, specialty hospital (60 acute cae beds for disabled children & a group of clinics that average over 80K visits per year) we have over 100 staff members engaged in the process so far. Anybody out there with Magnet experience -- any wisdom for our journey?
2. I'm plodding my way toward an FNP certificate (my master's degree is in pediatrics, but it is VERY old, so new credentials are needed!) but will probably not finish until 2008 or so. Any of you also headed toward NP work?
3. AD/DIP/BAC -- the old controversy continues. We have "upped the anty" at our hospital in an effort to encourage ADNs to pursue baccalaureate education. Nearby we have a state university with an ADN-to-MSN track that is very user-friendly. Our intention here is to raise the bar because the kids we serve have VERY complex needs and require both comprehensive assessment skills as well as careful monitoring. Some of our staff are offended that we desire to upgrade our skill/credential-mix.
It's not about diminishing anyone's entry education, it's about wanting to make nursing a shoulder-to-shoulder discipline with all the other healthcare team members (like master's prepared thereapists, physicians with PhDs etc.)But how can we approach the pursuit & support of collegiate and graduate education and STILL let ALL our nurses know that we appreciate what they bring to the bedside (regardless of their entry education)?
Hi, all! First time posting. I agree about the site being a bit slow, but hopefully that will change.
You mean that there is another site? GASP! Who'd have thought it! Just wasn't for me, though. I poked my nose in a few times, and it just was too.....cumbersome.
I'm not disappointed. I think it's a great site. I don't see your contribution to
make it better. And a month isn't long. Stay with it, when you need it, it'll be here for you.
Thank you, nurse10000! We all need to contribute....and there IS a Forum and thread to post to: Just wondering what would others....I do see a change in things; let's keep it going! 'Cat'

I am sorry I have not been able to post much. I have sold my house, my husband, myself, and our twins have moved in with my parents temporarily. We leave for Australia next Thursday. It has been a very interesting and busy month :)
Kimmie....at first I read your post as you sold your DH! :p  :p Good lord! I hope you get settled in soon before the Holi-daze. Mag is right....things ARE picking up, and it is thanks to people like you. Thanks!
I have to agree the pages are slow to load. Hopefully some techy person can speed it up....
I too was "warned" numerous time on another forum, seem you cannot voice anything that is not in line with the moderator, and it was ok for that moderator to name agencies but you had better not name ones she didn't approve..and banned from another, geesh all I did was tell the moderator that the person they were slamming had no clue to her petty beef with another forum...
Just an update, folks! We do have MANY new members joining every day, but I would like to see more posting from everyone. Oh, I know.....we are all busy with work and life in general. However, things ARE looking up. I hope everyone becomes an intergral part of the site. Thanks to Aaron and all his hard work.... 'Cat'
I have to agree with Sylvia. I am also disappointed.
It seems that although I have had several really bad travel experiences....and I could probably save others from similar ones, I am not permitted to even "review" the agencies in question...probably because they are advertisers on this website.
So...then I would warn that just because they advertise here....and have good reviews/ratings here does not necessarily mean they deserve such ratings.
I am saddened to find that this is not an honest forum.
Sfitz, I am sorry you've had some bad experiences. I have done alot of Home Health in the past, and not everyone likes the same agencies. That probably explains why there are so many.....ans what works for one, may not work for someone else. 'Cat'

I had to re-read my post. I just want to clarify, It was on another forum(s) that I was banned and my posts deleted and/or edited by the moderator. NOT this forum. So far no one has threatened me here or banned me :D I am very vocal and not politically correct. I am just too old for games.
Tis true that what works for one person may not work for another. I've had good experiences with agencies that others have had horrible experiences and vice-versa. I don't knowwhat your "reviews" said or who they were about.... I try to state just the facts, sometimes that is hard. Like when richards healthcare paid me about $12.75/hr for working Thanksgiving in MS after Katrina. I had to file a wage claim with the Texas employment commission, took about 5 moths to get the monies owed to me. I do not like CCTC, used them the first time I traveled, and was low balled bad. Smae with american mobile.... As far as I know, I have not said anything to be stifled here. I would hope that the moderator would explain if I was.

Don't let that big mysql error on the page fool you.
Before you make defaming remarks about this website please do at least some sort of inquiry into why something doesn't work. Assuming is never a good idea.
The reviews section is not working properly right now due to some compatibility issues with some other software we use. Due to the enormous amount of custom programming we have on this site, it has been a difficult issue to resolve.
I apologize if I come off as rude or defensive, but I put a good many hours of my day, EVERY DAY into making this site a better place and WE ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CENSOR PEOPLE FOR THEIR OPINIONS and I take offense to the accusation.
We are more than fair and we will always allow you to speak your mind.
Of course if you start cursing at people, making hateful, racist, sexist, and other offensive remarks, then we are going to take action. Those things are not part of what this site is about. Anything else is fair game.
I'm a little cranky, so if I offended anyone please forgive me!
I'm supposed to be flying into and out of Houston tomorrow and my back yard looks like it has two feet of snow in it, but it's actually about two feet of ice/sleet. And now...HOUSTON is having an ice storm.
sfitzrn,
I am working to get the reviews fixed, and will have an update as soon as I can get it taken care of.
Shortbus,
The site has really started to pick up. I hope to see this trend continue. Keep working on the review section as I feel this could be a very powerful tool for nurses to add to their evaluation. We all have our experiences and need to share that wealth with others in this profession. BTW: Great Name! (see below)
Hey Mag!!!
Could we please call Aaron by his Screen name: Shortbus... it can get a little confusing ie "Great job Aaron" not directly following his post in a subscribed thread prompts the thought "What the heck did I do?" :lmao:
The reviews section is now functional though I haven't been able to test every aspect of it quite yet. We're still working to make it better, but it should be working.
I really need to change my username to something more professional. It's kinda sentimental I guess which has kept me holding onto it still...

Soooo I am hoping this one is different.
'The Boss' has done some revamping of the site, and pages are now loading quickly. BTW.....it seems that you have a common beef that several others have, also. :D Am sure we know where.
