career change (teaching high school to nursing?)

am a high school biology teacher (Tampa area), with a BS in Bio/Zoo and am considering a career change... I'm 38, married with 3 boys... I have some questions I'd like to ask:

    * What are some specific positives/negatives from nursing field in your experience (not what the media may portray)?

    * Will any of my previous coursework be transferable, and what length of study am I really looking at? (have had micro, cell, genetics, comp vert anatomy, etc...)

    * What is the job market really like? What are the in demand specialties/areas? Are any really better than others?

    Thanks!
