I never wanted to be a nurse when I was growing up. All that blood! Yuck! After I was married, turned out I needed a job. My Mom worked as a nursing assistant in a local nursing home and suggested I try it. During my time there I worked with a wonderful nurse whose compassion was awe inspiring. I thought that if I could be half the nurse she was, I would have accomplished something important in my life. I was an LPN for 20 years before going back to school and becoming an RN then achieved a BSN. This all started 30 years ago and I still get excited about nursing! What a wonderful profession we are in. A few years back I called that nurse on the phone and told her how she had inspired me. She was then in her 70's and long since retired. I don't think she even remembered me. But I'll never forget her and what she did for me.
