So at about 10pm or so ago my husband and I heard our son making noises in his crib I went in to check on him and he was covered in vomit as well as his bed so hubby and I took him out of the bed gave him a bath and I called the pediatrician. While waiting for the pediatrician to call I checked his temp and it was normal then just as the pediatrician called he began vomiting again. The pediatrician said it was a stomach bug most likely which has been going around she said to keep hydrated and watch his temp. Well after the second bout of vomiting we gave him another bath and gave him a little water then some pedialyte he only had a little because he refuse to drink anymore and he just wanted to go back to sleep that is where he is now sleeping in his crib. I am worried that I didn't get enough fluids in him. What do you all think? I don't want to wake him and force him to drink especially now that he hasn't vomited in a few hours nor, knock on wood, had any diarrhea.
We don't normally give advice, but there IS a 'bug' going around. I would also think Pyloric Valve stenosis, if the vomit is projectile. If baby is sleeping, perhaps he is sleeping it off. :)

Thanks for replying cougarnurse. Sorry I didn't realize that you don't normally give advice on medical issues I probably should have read more about the guidelines I have been just so worried that I have asking everyone for some advice. Can you tell I am a first time mom. One more question if nobody mines but should he have formula right now. He has not vomited since last night but my hubby gave him formula this am and he just had diarrhea a short time ago.
Not medical advice - but Mommy advice offered
When baby is sick it's especially tuff for first time moms you sort of learn by trial and error what to do. The general rule for vomiting and diarrhea is clear liquid for 24 hours followed by gradual introduction of solids. If the baby kept the formula down it's probably ok. For diarrhea plain yogurt, mashed bananas,
oatmeal, dry toast etc. Always follow the advice of your pediatrician and maintain open communication. If the vomiting continues go to the ER. PS make sure the baby is sleeping on his side so that any vomit drains from the mouth.
Peace

Thank you sooooooo much for this advice. I really could use all the advice I can get. My pediatrician is great and they have been very helpful as well.
I might suggest a book called "What to expect during the first year" a
It's a practical easy to read book that covers most subjects, diet, illness, developmental milestones etc.... It's available on Amazon for less than $10.00.
I found it very helpful

I actually do have that and the one put out by the APA called "Caring for Your Baby and Young Child: Birth to Age Five" which has also been very helpful. Any suggestions on how to get a child my son's age to take fluids while sick.

I don't think you've said exactly how old the baby is but if he can sit in a high chair - Jello works great.

Sorry my son is 11 and 1/2 months old.
TJ was up at 3am vomiting and then again at 6am he vomited and he has been inconsolable. I paged the doc again and at this point they want us to come in and have TJ checked out for dehyradation. I am so freaked out right now I am just besides myself.:(
I just woke up 20 mins ago to the loud noises of someone vomiting so in my haze I immediately freaked out and thought it was the baby going through yet another vomiting spell but when I looked to my left to see where my hubby was I realized it was him vomiting badly downstairs in the bathroom. I quickly checked on the baby first to make sure he was okay and then ran downstairs to tend to hubby but hubby just asked me to leave him alone for right now. Once his vomiting slowed down I asked what I could he said nothing really. So I tried to reassure by saying I would get gatorade or whatever at the pharmacy if he needed and said he is okay with those things for now......UGH!!!!! WHAT A WEEKEND!! I suspect my turn is only a day or so away but I am hoping by then TJ will be all better and hubby will be somewhat better.
It sounds like your house has been hit by a bug. Sorry you are having to deal with that. I hope your son is doing ok. Since he's not a newborn I'd say just keep offering him pedialyte or gatorade. Stay away from water because it doesn't have electrolytes in it. If he tolerates small (2-4oz) amounts every 2 hrs or so you can increase his diet. Starches are a good place to start. Kids are so surprising. One day they're puking and having massive amounts of diarrhea and the next they're asking for pizza. Just go with what your kiddo can handle. This is what I've found from experience with my own kids.

Michelle your advice is excellent...THANK YOU!! This is almost word for word what I was told by my son's pediatric nurse too. My hubby is feeling better but now I am a bit sick :(. As for my son he is starting to eat and drink more but not nearly as much as before he was sick and he has had one or two bouts of diarrhea in the last two days. Is it normal that it has dragged on so long for my son?? Knock on wood he hasn't vomited in days just here and there bouts of diarrhea maybe one per day.
