I have a question to put out there for all you OR Nurses. I'm teaching the OR Course and when it came to gowning we demonstrated our current practice which uses the gloves package to turn. Sure I began/was taught to use a towel. But we somehow adopted this practice. I sit on a Practice Council as well and began to think about it..and I see nothing wrong with it. Essentially we never use that portion of the tie in securing the gown..so for all intensive purposes what and who for that matter assists us seems irrelevant.
Any thoughts?
Just one question; do you use cloth gowns all of the time? I work in an OR where we use 98% disposable gowns that have the spin card attached so that anyone sterile or otherwise can spin you. The few people who use the cloth gowns use the glove paper to wrap around the long tie so that the circulating nurse can spin them without contaminating the tie.
