hey!!
I am planning on traveling to Missouri for an assignment (close to my husbands family for a while). Any suggestions? It will be my first assignment and I want it to be a good experience!:houra: What hospitals are good-- which hospitals should I avoid? Any advice?
Thanks so much!
Hey Kelli
If your going to be in the Kansas City area I can reccommend North Kansas City Hospital, its a private pay (no residents) hospital. The facility is fairly nice as are the work conditions. If you are used to teaching hospitals Truman Medical Center is a great place to work. West campus is in a very urban setting and has a level III trauma center, etc. It is a great hospital for learning and never dull. Also St Lukes Hospital is a very good facility, I've only ever worked at the plaza campus which is the original hospital and so the building is old and the rooms are small, however the medical and nursing staff are really phenomenal. You didn't say what your specialty is I do know the Lukes is Level III trauma and NICU, also they have a brand new state of the art NeuroSurgical ICU. I worked there for 9.5 years in both Med/Surg and L&D/MB. Overland Park Regional is in OP KS very close to KC and is also a very good facility. Good Luck

Hi Kelli!
I live 40 miles west of STL....can tell you a bit about some facilities in and around here.
I work at a community hospital in the Barnes aka BJC system. It is small but we are incredibly busy!
BJC - Barnes Jewish Christian system is prob the biggest medical system in and around St. Louis....The main hospital is Barnes or "big Barnes" we we fondly call it...in St. Louis proper. St. Louis Children's is affilitated....you can go to the website BJC.org to explore.
I have found Barnes to be very similar to where I came from; which was Northwestern Memorial & Children's Memorial in Chicago.
They work hard to improve staffing issues and needs....but none of them in my opinion works hard enough. lol.
Other major medical centers (sytems) over STL way....include: St. John's Mercy, and the SSM hospitals ( St Joseph...Cardinal Glennon Children's).
Pretty much, the complaints I have heard about those hospitals are the same as everywhere....St. John's however is one of the few local hosptials that are union.
In general, people in this area are friendly, helpful and welcome good nurses period!
Good luck with your relocation.
