    nurse patient ratios

I am from Oklahoma and choose to travel because not only do I enjoy working in Calif. the pay is great and the nurse patient ratios are reasonable.

I usually travel 6+ months a year. I will return to Okla for the holidays and work PRN for a couple of months.

I would love to see Okla establish nurse patient ratios. I know this is asking a lot but each time I return to Okla to work I am overwhelmed by the number of patients assigned and the acuity of these patients. I worked on a neuro floor for a large hospital w/ a top notch trauma center. It was not uncommon to have 10+ patients. I usually only last about 4 months and then have to return to traveling because of major burnout.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how this problem can be approached.

    Any help would be appreciated!

The first step is usually to contact your local nursing organizations and get involved in grass roots lobbying. I'd try contacting them and see what positions they are taking on the issue.
