My name is Lisa Fowler. I wanted to tell you about a company I have started. It is called Nurses for nurses. First I would like to start by saying why I started this business. I was a travel nurse for many years. I was licensed in 18 states. I have to say some of the people I have met during my travels were some of the most caring and dedicated people in the world. One day during a contract in San Francisco I was roller bladeing with my daughter. I used all the safety equipment trying to be a strong role model, however I fell and broke my wrist. When this happened I was unable to complete my contract. I was financially devastated. I had to move back home without a dime to my name. The state literally laughed at me. They stated, You’re a nurse…live off your friends and family! I was horrified. I had no home…no money and a daughter that depended on me. We were homeless for several months . I could not get a job due to the fact I was considered a liability. After three months a skilled nursing facility gave me a chance. I worked there with a broken arm taking care of others. It was hard for me to understand. I was still a nurse. I still thought like a nurse. I still cared like a nurse. But I could not take on the physical demands the job entails. I thought about this hard time in my life, and I could not believe that I was useless without the use of my limb. I have met many nurses that are in this same position. Many of us are getting older, and the physical demands are getting greater. What options do we have? I decided to start a company. This company is a small one. The concept of the company is for nurses to take care of other nurses. We rent or buy real estate. We cater to travel nurses and give them things no one else offers. This is ran and operated by nurses or medical staff. We offer deluxe housing in safe communities, close to the hospitals and perks that are focused on the needs and wants of the travel nurse. We offer investment opportunities for nurses to prepare for their futures. We hope to involve retired nurses to help with the company and help with income to supplement their social security. We have two homes at this time. One in Phoenix AZ the other in Spartanburg SC. I have nurses that have offered their homes in other locations. We are looking at one in Tucson at this time. Our first home is up and running now in Scottsdale...there are six hospitals within 30 min. This house is little to NO COST to you and the profit made will go to help other nurses and medical staff...this is a win win for everyone!!!! We would love for any of the nurses to come and see what this is about. I am not a writer as you can tell from this letter. I am not a millionaire with money to burn. I am a nurse. Where I come from that still counts for something! I consider myself blessed to have met all the nurses and staff over the years. I don’t want a big company to benefit from this company. This is for the people that are in the trenches, the dedicated, and compassionate men and women of the medical field. This company is built for them. I feel this could change the lives of many. We are just getting started and would love for you to be a part of it. Thank you for your time.

Hi, Lisa. You get it! That is just huge. I have been contracting myself out for 6 years. I discuss this with my nurse friends all the time. We need a break in this profession. We (pardon the expression) get pimped by every company we work for. We are out there doing the work for them, by ourselves getting thrown into situations daily and just having to be extremely flexible in every situation. We need more support and kudos for the work we do. I am so glad that you get it. I have had a huge recent life change and am now living by a whole new set of rules. My husband left me and my daughter, just left us here to deal with this whole life we had created together, including the debt. The flexibility of contract nursing has helped me get thru this. I am now working towards a holistic degree to complement my 14 years as a nurse. I will always probably work as a O.R. nurse though. I have always loved it. I may be interested in your company. I am waiting for some finalization with my divorce, but then the world is an open door for me! I am so glad you are living one of your dreams, as many of us will benefit and our lives will be richer as nurses for what you are doing! rnstar43@yahoo.com
Thank you so much for the reply...you dont know how much I appreciate your support...I have dedicated my life to this...and I believe in it with all my heart...I still work as a staff nurse...I always will...its my love....and I dont want to give that up...but I know there are many others out there just like us...thats the whole point!!! I have struggled for years to start this company...and I feel if nurses understand the problems we face and the power we can have in numbers...the ability to have a choice...the strength and support from others...we can make our own lives and not depend on the company or state to look after us...they will not!!! Speaking as a nurse...and I traveled for many years...I would rather give my money to another nurse...this is a win win for everyone...I just have to get the word out...to let nurses know they have a choice!!! I am moving things into the house as I type...and I hope to have a pic for you soon...this is not like anything we have seen...I would really like for you to see what Im talking about...give me a week or so and I will send you some pics...and again...thank you so much for your support...I have had many struggles to follow this dream...and you dont know how much it means....take care...Lisa
This sounds like a great idea. Your story was touching. It seems so farfetched that something like that could happen, but it could happen to me. Do you have a website yet? Did I miss that?
Hi disholicious...no I dont have a website yet...but we are working on it...we are just starting this company up...open house for the one in AZ we hope to be on the 10th...this is so amazing...the travelers have nooooo idea what we are talking about...just to let you know a few perks...pool...jacuzzi...pool table...big screen tv...bikes...There are soooo many perks I cant even attempt to say...I mean this is so much more than just a house...I have nurses that donate things to decorate...and if you think about this...its very simple...I worked as a travel nurse for many years as I said...we have to pay someone...we never see a dime of that money..not unless we find our own housing...then a 13 week lease is looked down on...some of the areas are unsafe...and we get a limited amount of things...then we have to buy small things...dishes...towels...stuff like that...that all adds up...and you dont want to move it again...so what do we do with it? Some as I said donate it to the houses...its perfect idea...we take care of one another...and everyone wins...the only ones that wont is the complexes that are getting rich off us...and can I be frank about this...when I traveled I researched every place I stayed...I have a daughter and as I said..some are not safe...so I wanted to know where my money was going...and would call to check...act as if I was moving to the state...and low and behold what did I find...every single nurse pays a diff rate...and if they give you...example...$1000 a month...they find a place for say...$700...do you ever see the rest of that money...are you even told about it???? NOOOO! So I say...if we pay the money...lets get what we pay for! Lets pay other nurses like us! I dont know if you will be here around the 10th...but I would really love for all that are interested to come and see....what we plan is to have a cook out...FREE FOOD guys...it will be of course first come first serve...but all we want is for other nurses to see what we are talking about...no strings...no pressure...just come look...and..see here is the catch...tell us what works...what doesnt...this company really is for us...so who better to fine tune it??? If your interested email me...or even...not sure if I can do this...but call....602-475-4185....Im sorry guys...bit tired...been moving all weekend...would love to hear more comments...take care....Lisa
I have a 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath, two story vacation home in South Lake tahoe, Ca and would be interested in leasing to specifically travel nurses.
I am an ER nurse in Lake Isabella (MT. Mesa), CA. I live 90 miles away and travel up there, work my shifts (while staying up there) and then drive home. I have been extremely fortunate to have such a good friend and co-worker, very caring. I stay in her home, my own room with my own bathroom and 99% of the time, it is available for me (I insist if she have family up that they take priority, and then find other accomodations). In any case, I understand how important it is to be taken care of and to stay in a nurturing enviroment and could not accept anything less tahn that.
The reason I am responding to your story is because my husband and I would like to be able to lease our house out to travel nurses rather than vacationers. It is our dream in the near future to be able to retire into this home. This home means a lot to us and we feel that renting to travel nurses would mean that our place would be cared for very well. I know a lot of travel nurses and they are very hard working, commited, and caring individuals. We are also sure that the nurses staying there would truely feel at home, be blessed and enjoy their travel assignment all the more.
It is walking distance to the lake, which is visible from the front yard, with a jacuzzi on a deck in the back yard to relax your tired achey muscles after working all night or day. It is a very safe and quiet neighborhood. The closest hospital (Barton Memorial) is less than 10 min up the street and the ski lifts are 10 min. in the oppisite direction.
Our home is COMPLETELY furnished, just bring your clothes, food, and your family. $1800/ mo It can sleep a nurse and his/her family of 5 or up to 3 nurses sharing the house (private bedrooms for each) all utilities included: elec., gas, phone, water, and trash.
I tried going on the classified section of Ultimate nurse.com and it would only allow me to list if the home were in Alabama????
In any case, Lisa. If you or someone you know would be interested pls. email me at Tsatton@bak.rr.com. Good luck to you. When you get your website up, let me know, I'd like to check it out.
Hi Theresa! This is the exact concept of this company...you are right...nurses will take care of your home....and they deserve wonderful homes such as this one....I would love to come up and see it in person...this we feel will become a trend all over the US...and I have other nurses such as yourself that feel the same way...we will open our hearts and homes to people we feel will appreciate it and very much deserve it! I would love to have travel nurses to take care of your home...as I said...I have just started this...and we are working night and day to get it going....I have my first open house 09-10-2007 from 5pm-10pm here...there are six hospitals within 25 minutes of the home...I hope to have pics on here very soon! If you can give me an email address I can send it via mail now. During the open house we are having a cook out in honor of the travel nurses....FREE FOOD!!! Nothing fancy...burgers and dogs...but the idea is for people to see what we are talking about...this is like nothing out there! If you have a chance I would love for you to come...if your able to do so...call me...I will give you directions and explain more of what we have to offer...this is a chain tho...without one nurse...I cant benifit another...so if you know any that are coming to the phoenix area...just ask them to drop by...we would love to meet them! I have to say one thing about this Theresa...nurses that stand together can change the world....we all have worked hard to carry that title...it takes determination and heart....with people like that on our side....how could we lose? Thank you for taking time to read my story...and if you can give me some time Im sure I can help with your home! Take care....Lisa....602-475-4185
I have pics of the house...but I hate to say it....I dont know how to load them...it keeps saying error...I would love some help....does anyone know how to do this...or tell me what Im doing wrong...I want to show you guys just what Im talking about...I think it will shed some light on how this is a win win for all....please help me...thanks...Lisa
I would love to come and check out your open house but between the drive (from Tehachapi, Ca) and my work schedule, it's just not possible. My email is listed above. I would love to see pictures though. Maybe what you could do is start a portfolio of each home so that travel nurses would be able to visualize where thay were going to stay. This kind of bussiness would also benefit the hospitals because it would draw more interest in accepting an assignment in that area.
For me to be away from home and my family, I need predictability, reliabilty, and stability. That's why I love staying at my friend/college's house. Also, I have been very reluctant to do travel assignments because of the unpredictability of it: the assignment itself and where you are assigned to stay (living quarters). I have a lot of respect for travel nurses. It is not easy to move around and continue to adapt to new people, places, policies, procedures, cities....... I am thinking when my youngest is out of high school then I will do travel assignments, and bring my husband along. He hopefully will be retired then.
Anyway, keep in touch and let me know when you would like to drive into Lake Tahoe. I will make arrangements for you to not only see it but stay there yourself for a few nights. :)
go to the paperclip on "Reply to Thread". Then click on the brouse tab and you will begin to brouse into your own down loaded pics on your computer. It allows you to ddown load up to 5 thumbnail pics or: When you've got your website up you can type your website into the "send trackbacks to" box.
Hi Theresa...its always a pleasure...Im sorry its been a few days before could respond...of course I have been working on the house...Im not trying to brag...but it looks amazing...The travel nurses dont have to do anything but have fun...the pics are to big to put on here...going to try and make them smaller...I will email them to you tonight...let me know what you think...take care...Lisa
Hi theresa! So great to see you! The open house...well it did not go as well as we would have liked...We have been working on this house for a month...low and behold the day we had the open house they closed the security gates...Im glad in a way...I want the house to be secure...but come on...the day of my open house???? Oh well...we just have to keep trying...I believe in this with all my heart...and I know it will help many people...so I keep trying! I did speak to a few travel companies that are interested...sunbelt staffing...elite travel nurse and rnnetwork...will keep trying in the morning...this is so hard to explain...we offer so much more than an amazing house...the perks and design are like nothing else you have seen...still working on the website...of course...thats the first question anyone asks...working on it guys...promise...its difficult because we all work a full time job...but we are getting there....wish me luck....by the way...what did ya think of the house? Take care...Lisa
I thought the house was gorgeous and the decor done in very good taste.
I sent you an email. I said that if I took a travel assignment, I'd have some 'splainin to do "yeah really hunny, I'm working. Vacationing, nooo"
Hi Theresa...Im so sorry I have not had the chance to check my private email...but I will tonight...thank you so much for the kind words...we love the house...and I do think its gorgeous but its always nice to hear it from someone else...you know I just thought of something...I never have told you the perks have I? Just the look of the house is not it...there is soooo much more...hang on to you hat girl....PERKS: we have unlimited long distance phone calls...so they can talk to their loved ones...big screen tv with cable...dvd..stereo...we have pool...spa...pool table...air hockey...games such as chess..scabble...and much more...we have a frig in each room...all the comforts of home...towels..dishes..all that...we have a resource room with computer, internet, maps, and medical books....we do all the yard/pool work and even have house keeping come in and clean the house three times a week...we have a cook that wants to cook for them (that would not be included...but an option)...we have what I call cheat sheets...it tells them directions to places...like where to get a haircut...shoes...go to a movie...things like that....we have places to see....its places other nurses loved and would like them to visit...and thats just the start...now the wonderful thing about this is...its little or no cost to them...I have been on both sides of the coin...and travel nurses take the hardest jobs...thats why they pay housing...I think they deserve better than what they get...and the people they pay to clean, work and rent...are the ones in the trenches...medical staff!!! So this is what I mean by nothing out there like this...and taking care of each other...on that note...the investors we have...we request to put up $5.00 a month...it goes into what we call the rainy day fund...so if...god forbid...something happens to one of us or one of the travel nurses...we can buy a little food..or pay a light bill...Would it take thousands of dollars to invest...NOOOO...this is a numbers game guys...it is meant so we can afford it....Again..this company is for us! If you took 200 nurses that invested $1000.00 each...that would be $200000.00 thats a lot of money...would we get rich???...NO...thats NOT what this is about...but it would be steady income for many...shared by the investors (only nurses or medical staff)...and I hope for them to save for the future...more about the company (can you tell my passion in this????)...we also give bday parties for them..xmas and holidays....on xmas we are giving a $50 dollar discount so they can buy something for themselves...its hard being away from your friends and family....so we want to kinda fill in...we also would like for the people that rent from us to name a room...it sounds silly...but I had a wonderful LPN that made the difference in my life...I love her dearly and will never forget her...I call it Mrs. Marys garden...thats the red room you see...and I want them to dedicate a room to someone that is important to them...another nurse or medical staff member...this is a very personal company....it really is to benifit all of us...and we really do care about the nurses...thats the whole point...I just need a little help getting is started....thank you so much for your support...and I look forward to hearing from you soon...take care...Lisa

Hi Theresa...sorry it has taken so long for me to respond...I did respone a little sooner on the site...did you check out all the perks? Let me know what you think....have you rented your house yet? I may have a few travel companies interested....take care...Lisa
No, I haven't had any response yet. I've had some vacationer requests for Christmas but I am trying to hold back in hopes of putting nursing staff there instead. If I book a vactioner for Christmas and someone calls from a travel nursing that is doing a 26 wk assignment, unless there assignment ends right before Christmas, it would not be do-able. I'd have to either say no to a 26 wk lease for nursing staff or cancel a families Christmas/New Years plans. So I'm trying to hold back. Christmas and NewYears is always bookable, even at the last minute for vacationers. So by the end of Nov. , if I don't have a travelor nurse than I will have no choice but to rent it out to a vacationer :( I've got to make my mortgage, it's that or work 5 nights a week and become a total stranger to me family. Anyway, time will tell. "a few travel companies interested" That would be great. I'm not sure what travel companies that Barton Memorial uses...I think I'm going to start thread on that. Perhaps someone out there from that hospital might be reading Ultimatenurses.com.
The house that you put together is beautiful. Why would any travel nurse want to stay anywhere else. It's a no brainer. You should send these pictures to the local hospital administration there. Some hospitals rent places for their travelors. Our hospital rents 2 or 3 apartments. They are a little scary looking though. That's why I stay with at my friend's house. I'm just a little bit spoiled there..certainly NOT like your Pheonix home. The home you put together is enough to drive a nurse to want to work and travel. Is this your home or are you leasing it? Has anyone inquired about it or do you have travel nurses lined up? I noticed it is a huge place. What if a travel nurse is traveling with family/ child/ spouse? I'm thinking that you are renting it out by the room since you put a frig. in each room(very cool)??? How would that fit in if you already have say 3 nurses occupying the other room and now you have a travel nurse with a..say 6 yr. old boy (A single Mom)? Perhaps you will need a variety of housing types to better serve the nursing population.
There are probably a lot of nurses out there that have invested in second homes like myself and perhaps would like to partner up with your company. You are right. This is an awesome concept. It is different to rent to your colleagues rather than who knows who....you will want your home to shine for them...this is your reputation on the line...therefore travel nurses are going to get to stay at the most beautiful, desirable and kept homes. And we do deserve it. We work so darn hard. People have NO idea. It is so important to me to be able to come home and relax and shed off the night, the stress, the emotions, the drama:eek: The valuble time that I spend in between shifts and days off is what juices me up and enables me to walk back into the ER and do it again.....it's not the all mighty paycheck.....I don't care how big your check is.
Is your company up online yet? I can't wait to check it out. You said that nurses partner up by donating so many dollars a month..how does that begin do you have applications for it. I'm very excited about this for everybody involved. I wonder what other travel nurse think about this.......:)
Hi Theresa...thank you again for your reply...Im glad you asked this question...and yes of course I have an answer...I am a single mom...and I know how much stress I had for 6 1/2 yrs traveling with her...who will keep her...is it safe...will they keep her for the hours I work...it was a true nightmare! I understand this fear and frustration...there is not a daycare in 18 states that would keep her for over 12 hrs...it would have to be a private person...and of course...we work 12hrs...so then what??? The private person...and that has to be safe...and you dont know anyone...so heres another problem...with this company as I have said in the past...it is made for us...we are new...and small...but we hope in the near future to have housing for the traveling family...baby steps first...now..saying that...as a mom and a nurse...it would make me feel soooo much better if I knew another nurse was caring for my child...if something happened...she could take care of it...she would know what to do! So another question...where is she...this is where the retired nurses are so important...when we get this company off the ground I want to involve them...I had a retired nurse come to me two weeks ago...she was crying when she read my pamplet...she said..why could you have not done this sooner??? She told me she retired in 3 days...and she went to soc. security...she was told she would get $500 a month..she could not afford to live here...so she was moving to a lower income state...this troubled me...my father...is 67..and he gets $1000 a month...of course that does not pay his bills...so how do they supplement this??? If you pay...say $150.00 a week daycare...and you had 3-4 kids...thats a pretty good paycheck...you are still active with the medical field...your helping another nurse...you can pay your bills...and the mom has sigh of relief that her child is cared for...now daycare will not only be by retired nurses...This company is for ALL medical staff...so it could be a supplement for many...this is not up and running at this time...its our dream...there is much more to this...you would have to screen the staff...and make sure they are the right people for the children...as a mother...this is sooooo important...but they are a lot of good people in the medical field...and I know we can make this happen! The type housing would be a bit diff...for a family you would design it a bit diff...but a four plex or eight plex just may be what we are looking for...it would still have a resource room...and other perks...but a bit diff from this one...even if they have someone to watch the kids while they work such as a spouse..I have seen a lot of stress with this...they never get a break..and we all need a break....so this would help resolve some of that stress...AGAIN I cant say this enough...this company is for US...ALL of us...who better to fine tune it...then the ones in the trenches? Thank you again for all your support...and to all the travelers out there...feel free to come see what we are doing...it really will surprise you...take care....Lisa
Hi guys...I am sooooo excited....I have the most wonderful news!!! The magazine....Working Nurse of Arizona may be interested in writing a story on us!!!!! This would be a perfect story for them...it is about the working nurse...can you believe it...I can barely contain myself....I dont know if its a go yet...but I hope to know in the next few days....wish me luck guys! Take care....Lisa
Hi Lisa,
I'm glad you made it through your rough time, and you are getting back on your feet. If you ever get a house near or around Tucson I maybe interested in renting. I am a new older traveler and what you are doing is really a great way to help others.
Alice
Hi Alice...thank you so much for your support...we need all we can get...and it is very much appreciated! I am looking at a home in Tucson at this time...we have two nurses there that are interested in using their homes...I have to see if it will fit our standards...I find most do...these are nurses...being close to the hospital in a safe place is a must...the problem is we have to get the first one off the ground...but keep looking....we hope this will be all over the USA...the more homes we have...the more nurses we can help! Our intent is to help not harm...we will not pull in other investors until we know we can help them...So keep your eye out...and I will let you know how its going...take care...Lisa
How are things coming along? Have you checked out the housing in Tucson,Az.? I have referred a few people to your thread. I'm sure you are extremely busy in between work and your new company. I am looking forward to hearing more good news about Nursesfornurses. Did you do the magazine interview? Keep us informed.
Hi Theresa...its always a pleasure...the article...I call today...asked how it was going and if they are really going to run the story...I would love it if they do! They said it is under review and they are very interested...if it is published it will be in Nov....so Im crossing my fingers! I want to thank you for sending people to my thread...we really do need all the help we can get! I have spoken to many...I get emails everyday...so many nurses out there that need help...my heart goes out to them...and I want to help so badly...but as I have said before...until I have this house filled...I cannot help anyone else no matter how much we may want too....we have ordered signs and placed an ad on craigslist in phoenix...it at least lets you see the pics of the house...the web page is suppose to be up and running...I was just looking for it...you know my every waking moment is for this...and I have been working a lot of hours as well with my REAL job...I dont see the website being functional at this time...so Im a bit confused...it was suppose to be up and running...they said two weeks ago...Im not so sure! There is one other thing I would like to address...there are soooo many wonderful people out there...I have gotten a lot of support....and you guys just dont know how much that means to an old tired nurse.....when we get frustrated...tired...or overworked...your letters and support keep this dream alive...THANK YOU for that!!! I will keep you informed of whats happening with the company....and please keep the letters coming guys...it does mean so much to us! Take care...Lisa
Hi guys...I see the website...its not what I expected...I have to speak with the company...the name is wrong...and it is very limited...does not say anything about what we do..perks...location...so please forgive us...we will have this changed!!!! You can look at some very nice pics of the house...thats about it...the website is Nursing for Nursing Houses | Providing Housing for Traveling Healthcare Practitioners. ...we will continue to work on the information provided by the website...there is soooo much more to this than just nice pics...thats the information we feel is important...so bare with us...we will have it fixed! Take care...Lisa

We haven't heard from you for awhile. I am wondering how your new company Nurse for Nurses is coming along?? Have you found renters for the Arizona house yet? How did the magazine artical turn out? :)
Hi Theresa...Im doing great...learning more and more....I was sidetracked for a few weeks due to my daughter...teens...shhhheeeeeesssshhhhh...anyways...back on track again...working on a business plan and grants to help with educational material for the nurses....marketing is still a problem...marketing takes money...and thats something that we all know...nurses dont have a lot of...thats why Im doing what Im doing...I knew when I started this Theresa it would be a difficult task....but my heart is in the right place...Im strong and hard headed...so I keep at it....I have many people that have offered help...some with money (I wont take...not until this is off the ground) and others time and experience....I can not even start to say how much I appreciate the help and support...the one thing I keep saying is...this company is ours!!! and who better to fine tune and better it? There are so many nurses and medical staff that have such wonderful ideas...and diff backgrounds...so every little bit helps! I have pics of the house on craigslist of phoenix...and have had people respond...the only problem is...it is mostly people are not in the medical field...and to be honest...this house is not for them...it is designed for travel nurses/resp tx/pt/ot...ect....so we keep trying...the magazine...I called last week...and they state they are looking at it....I keep trying...I write to all nursing magazines....and call all travel companies...most of what I get from the travel companies is...the nurses will not want this...my answer is...how about giving them the CHOICE....I think you may find they do! It is difficult for the companies to understand...there is nothing out here like this....so there is nothing to compare it too....you really have to see the home to understand the structure....pics do not do it justice...and to try and explain everything that is involved in this...its truely a mouthfull....I still struggle on finding a way to get the word out to all nursing/medical staff....Im not sure how to go about it...so if you have any suggestions they are very much welcomed....I am also working with american grant...I feel that is our heart is in the right place...there has to be some assistance...this is to better all of our lives....to help give jobs to retired and disabled nurses...to educate and enhance our lives...there surely has to be something out there to help us! Working full time and working on this in my spare time assures me this will take time...but what better way to spend my time...working on my dream...and helping others....I enjoy doing it! I have registered for some classes with the women small business association...so I know this will be a help...wont keep you...you know Im long winded...but I always love hearing from you! Take care girl...and dont give up on me....I havent! Lisa
What about starting our own nursing magazine called "Nurses For Nurses" with a listing of houses owned by nurses for nurses. Interviews with nurses of different job catagories/depts, areas of the country. All your ideas in one quarterly magazine, to fund help fund this company. Subscribers would be nurses across the country and...I suspect copies to travel nursing companies would be a plus to get them to place their nurses into these homes???????
The web page does need some work...any RNs out there that are computer savy that can help out with Lisa's web site idea. Your website should show ticons with the areas where the houses are (city) then one photo of each, then click on that photo to see various other pics of that house. You should have 15-50 houses on there. You need to collaborate the housing from all the nurses that have contacted you and have them send you photos with descriptions of the home, the area, local hosp. info, etc.
Don't worry Lisa, this is not impossible. It is a lot of work but it can be done and we as nurses need to take care of each other!
If there is something I can help you with email me! I usually check my email 2-3 times a week.
Hi Theresa...this sounds like a wonderful idea!!!! I would not know how to go about this...but of course...I learn every day! I love hearing ideas from other nurses....I think you would be shocked of the bright ideas and suggestion I get...keep them coming guys...this is what its all about...us taking care of each other...we already share a wonderful bond...we do what we do because we love it...so I say lets take it a bit further!!! Yes your right Theresa...I hate that website...and it needs a terrible amount of help...it shows none of the compation..dreams...or intent of all this...just pics...and that NOT what we want at all....so again...anyone that can help....feel free...we want you to be involved...I can not stress this enough...this is YOUR company guys...lets make it the best it can be! Take care...Lisa
UPDATE
We have our first nurse moving in the 6th...we have two more looking at the house next weekend.....we are so excited to have them! That will leave only two slots left...then we will be looking for another home...keep your eyes open guys....I have several wonderful homes in mind....but Im sure we will be looking for more....if you have one let us know....take care...Lisa
Lisa, sounds like things are getting off the ground. I talk to a recruiter (Emerald Health Services) reguarding renting my home to travelers in Tahoe and she is working on it. Very exciting. She is working on getting some travel positions in south lake Tahoe. I am very excited. It will help me out so much. We finally discontinued our house contract with the vacation rental company. We got tired of the fix and repairs that we kept coming up against because of the type of wreckless renters we were getting. I'd rather work a zillion hours to meet the bills then throw money to weekend partiers. Enough said. Lisa, let me know when your ready to drive to tahoe and check out our home. I stll think a nursing renter's guild magazine would be the way to go. We, as homeowners, pay for the advertisement. The magazine is sent to hospitals and professional travel companies. How to get started? Any ideas out there?????
Hi everyone....its after the holidays and back at it again...we have been working hard on nurses for nurses....learning a lot of interesting information...we had just added a bilingual class and credit repair to our services all this is included in the rent...I have several retired and one disabled that is interested in working for us....we also offer many benifits to all types of nurses...and referal bonus for nurses that refer others to us....NURSES TAKING CARE OF NURSES...thats what this is all about!!!! I cant stress enough how much I love your comments...who better to fine tune this than a nurse...take care guys!
so, I googled "nurses for nurses" and there is another company with the same name as yours- they have a website, apparently they sell nursing uniforms.... Are you affiliated with them???
Hi Amanda...no we are not affiliated with them...we are working on our own website Nurses For Nurses LLC....it has taken us a while to get one started...we all work full time jobs as nurses...so time is not our friend....but we hope to have it up in the next two weeks....I will post the site when its up and running....this is our second attempt for a nice website...the first we were not happy with at all...so I cross my fingers and see what happens!!! Take care Amanda and thank your for the reply....Lisa
Update on progress: We start our first bilingual classes next week!!! I am also looking forward to speaking at the next National Association of Hispanice Nurses. I have been speaking to them about possibly partnering with them to teach our bilingual classes...We feel they could be a great asset to this company! I know I keep saying this...but this company is to benefit every type of nurse...it is built for us...and we need you!!!! Credit Repair classes start next Friday....this is all done by another nurse or healthcare worker....Website...this has been a true headache...but its going...the company we have hired states it will be a few weeks....we have our fingers crossed...Take care and wish me luck....Lisa
UPDATE: We are having our first bilingual class this Wed...we are also having our credit repair class this Fri....We are also looking at having a "do's and donts of buying a home" class in the next week or so...website....sheeesh...this is my thorn...they say its coming...we are suppose to have a draft by the end of this week...keeping my fingers crossed...take care everyone....Lisa
Update on progress: Bilingual class was wonderful...instructor will be making a cd for the nurses....will be speaking at the Next National Association of Hispanice Nurses on the 20th of this month...we are very excited about it! We will also be hosting a meeting for them in Sept...it is posted on their website if your interested...the Phoenix chapter...our website...I am hearing we will have the draft by this weekend...hope to be up next week...will keep you posted...thank you for your time and support...take care...Lisa
UPDATE: We have the first view of our website!!!!! Its still not what we want...but we can work with it...it does have very strong points...it has a guest sign in...a discussion center...and slide shows of the homes....its a start! I will let you know when its up and running...take care...Lisa
ITS HERE GUYS!!!! We still are changing some of the design...but the website is up and running!!!!!! nursesfornursesllc.com check it out and give me your opinion...take care....Lisa
UPDATE: Today is the day guys...I will be speaking with the National Hispanic Nurses Association today...we will be telling them about the company and about the website...nursesfornursesllc.com....Im not a public speaker...so Im a bit nervous...my only saving grace is I know my heart is in the right place...so I cant go wrong...right? Wish me luck and take care....Lisa
UPDATE: I am excited to say our meeting with the National Hispanic Nurses Association went well...altho I have found I lack in public speaking...I had this wonderful speech...I got half way through it and lost it...but Im pleased to say my heart and passion took over...in a way I think this is the best thing that could have happened....I was not reading from a script...I was speaking from my heart...the statistics that I did read...such as the american nurses association states "Working in a health care facility is reported to be one of the most dangerous jobs in the United States. In a national survey of RN's conducted by ANA in 2001, fewer than 20 percent of the nurses in this survey felt very safe from work related injury and illness in their current work environment, 40 percent had been injured on the job in the past year. Over three-quarterers of the nurses surveyed (76 percent) indicated that unsafe working conditions interfere with their ability to deliver quality care." Now to me this is staggering statistics guys...and I say we have came a long way since 2001...or have we? The US labor statistics states in 2006...there are 5.8 per 100 work related injury and illness in this field....that is what all this is about guys....who takes care of us? Who takes care of us when we have a back injury, knee problems, or we simply get older and cant do the physical demands this job entails...who take care of us? Honestly...I really want you to think about that....Take care and I hope to hear from you soon! Lisa
Update: Hello everyone...its always a pleasure being here...I wanted to tell you guys how much I appreciate the remarks and support with our new website...our passion is what keeps us going...and you guys give us the energy! The newest thing...we have placed our ad in healthcare traveler...it should be in next months issue...We are also looking at going to the next national conference...we will be having a drawing for scrub tops...we will be giving them away...we have been designing the color and logo...any suggestions guys??? I also must comment on the new website for Ultimate Nurse...outstanding job guys!!!! Take care...Lisa
UPDATE: We have our ad in the healthcare traveler...would love to hear what you think of it! We have also been working with nurses on relief for the outrageous gas prices...this is a major concern for all of us...we are investigating carpooling with the local hospitals (some hospitals accommodate this)...as well as carpooling with each other. Some of the staff nurses are showing an interest in renting from us due to our location (close to the hospitals) to save money each week on gas...I think this is wonderful...the whole point of this company is to help each other...that includes...staff...travel...retired...disabled...and I’m thrilled we can help! Thank you for taking your time to read about us...you are very much appreciated! Take care...Lisa
PS: if you would like to see a picture of us (one of my family pics)…you are welcome to look at my album
UPDATE: Hello everyone...just wanted to give a quick update...things are going well...I have had several requests for homes in ST. Petersburg Florida...let me know if your interested in going there. I would love to speak with someone from there that can give me more information on the area! We only want the best of the best for our nurses...so any information you can give us would be wonderful....this would give us a start on the best areas there...before we take a trip down there...we will not use any homes we would not have our own family in...so of course...we want to see them...trip to Florida for the summer...Im game...wish me luck and take care guys....Lisa
