Have never worked in NYC, but I have heard that their nurset ratios are HORRIBLE. Like 1:8 for ER, which is very unsafe, and twice the national average of 1:4....... You couldn't pay me enough to work there for that reason.
Hey guys,
i'm looking to travel to NYC. Who has been there and has some info on::
How much stipend they give to live in Manhattan?
If you travel with someone, how much do they charge for a second bedroom?
What is the average pay rate in the city?
What hospitals are good to work at for tele or ICU?
Where have people been put up in the city if they took the housing?
Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

I am currently on assingment at Beth Israel Medical Center. I was supposed to be working med/surg but am not. I have floated to telemetry, neuro, and ortho/spine. Telemetry was awful- they have no supplies such as pill cutters, not enough pillows or blankets for all the patients. The ratio I had was 7 patients to one nurse. But the hospital is very dirty and gross. Most of the bathrooms are out of soap and they smell like outhouses. Floors are rarely swept or mopped, the walls are badly in need of a washing or painting. Trash is overflowing everywhere. This has been a horrible experience and I would leave now if I could. I really dont know about average pay rate, but my pay is $28/hour. I am staying at the apartment they found for me. It is on 51st and 1st Ave.- right in midtown and a very expensive neighborhood. Its a studio and I can't complain about it. Don't ever work at Beth Israel!!!!!
