I'm 47 years old and my thoughts are to go to school to become an RN. Would you say that I should find another field at my age? It's been a long time since I have been in school and its frightening. If this is something to consider does anyone have any sugestions on where to begin. I have seen so many nursing school ads its overwhelming. Is there a place for only old ladies !?! Any help will be greatly appreciated. :)
Hi, Julie, and welcome to the site! 47...old? *Snort!* No, you are not old. :) There were 2 ladies in their 50's in my LPN class. Of course, I was the oldest in my BSN class, at 39. Basically, age is just a number.
If you are interested in Nursing, I say talk to a counselor at your local Community College, first. They would be able to formulate a good plan of action for you.
Keep in touch, and let us know how things work out.

You are definately not too old if you have your mind set. I think I've worked with a few new grads who were 'too young'. With the ability to get your degree in 1-2 years and all the oppurtunities with different fields of nursing you definately are not too old. I agree with starting with your local Community College.
you are never too old. My mother told me you are only as old as you feel! Going back to school is scary for everyone bu that makes it more fun and the feeling of accomplishment after you have walked through it... no one can take that away from you. I say..go for it!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh by the way i am 51 and I finished my ADN at 35 and my BSN when i was 40. And now I am gong to be a travel nurse. woohoo :)

Honey, I am 42 now and will graduate in May so no you aren't to old. As for not being in school for so long. Well, I finished the 7th grade and quit 2 weeks into the 8th to get married I was 14 then. I had my son when I was 21 and decided I wanted to go to nursing school and did, I graduated from LPN school when he was about 2 and 1/2 . I know it seems impossible sometimes but you can do it if you really try and it would be nice if you had a good support system at home,(but not Req'd). Just try it. I can promise you, it is worth it when you get out. Good Luck whatever you decide.
Hi Julie,
You are defiently not too old. I graduated from an Lpn program at 49, I am now trying to the LPN-Rn program through distance learning. I agree talk to someone at a community college. Good Luck
