What shift do you 'prefer'? Do you work better on 3-11's?
What kind of hours do some of you work? Can you pick ? Have you ever tried to work the night shift and couldnt do it?
I need quite a bit of sleep at night. It may be due to the quality of my bed but theres now way to find out easily. Anyways I was just curious about hours and scheduling. Anything you want to add that I didnt ask would be appreciated.

I've seen some pretty creative scheduling in the healthcare field.
To clarify im not an RN yet. Im enter the program in the fall. I guess what I was really asking is is it possible to work 9-5ish being an RN? I really dont I could work the night shift.
There are 9-5 type jobs for RN's (clinics, school nurse, public health nurse, etc....), but most want you to have experience, and most pay a LOT less than other jobs.

Are there shifts that are uniform across the states? Like 3-11 11-7 7-3 ?
I have worked in 5 different states, and have worked the following shifts:
3a-3p
7a-7p
11a-11p
3p-3a
6p-6a
7p-7a
11p-11a
7a-3p
3p-11a
6p-2a
11p-7a
So, as you can see, it's pretty wide open. If you want to know what shifts are common in your area, check out your newspaper's classified ads or job postings on your local hospital's website to see what shifts they're hiring for.
