Does anyone know the tax rules regarding staying at an assignment for more than a year? My recruiter says that my housing stipend will be taxed after I've been at my assignment for a year. I really like my assignment, and I have extended several times. It will be a year as of June, but I would like to stay longer. Another nurse told me that if I left for two weeks, and then came back on a new contract, that my housing stipend wouldn't be taxed. Anyone have any experience with this? :33:
Staying longer than a year
You would need to leave for a period of time & actually work in another state, then you could come back and still get your tax free housing, but if you don't take a break and work in a different state, you will have to start paying taxes on your housing after a year.
