Hi everyone, my name is Darlene and have been a nurse for almost 13 years. I am strongly thinking about travel nursing in September. Looking for a new adventure. I have done med-surg 5 years, but my heart is in postpartum of almost 8 years.

Hi Amanda, that would be great. I am new at this and looking for any suggestions!

Thanks for the welcome Cary! Looks like you have better temperatures there in Washington than we do here in Mississippi.

Definitely moving back to Texas mid-SEP. The temps are 20-30' cooler here in WA than Central Texas right now. However, Texas is NEVER as hot as Southern Iraq. That's a FACT I'll not soon enough forget.

Welcome,

I have a question. It was suggested to me that i should work in med-surg before i do anything in a hospital. I really want to work on the OB floor. Would you suggest the same as well?:)

I have the upmost respect for med/surg nurses. However, it being a must to work M/S Flr for 12 months out of nursing school is way overrated, IMHO. Apply to OB now, if that is your interest. Good luck!

I do believe the med-surg experience helps you out in the long run. That is what I did before I did OB. My problem is that I did for almost 5 years before going into OB and it burned me out quick. I would recommend one year because it does give the backbone in nursing for all other areas. You learn a lot in med-surg because you see everything!
