I'm starting a new thread called what I did today or going to do today because I like to know what everyone is up to

So I'll start just jump in there. I got up at 5 and took my shower and ate my toast and diet coke and checking my e-mail. I'll leave here in about 20 minutes for my 45 minute drive to work. I think I'm incharge in labor today and I know there's an induction which should go pretty quickly as this is the pt's 3rd baby and she's been trying to have it for 20 weeks alreay. Then I have a tanning bed appt when I get off... I know it's bad but I do it anyway it's my summer vice I don't smoke, I don't drink (much) and I don't chase wild wild men. Then if by then it's time to pick my 6 yr old up from bible school I'll do that if my friend hasn't already. Then come home and sort out my Avon order to deliver tomorrow...I hate sorting out day but like to open the boxes plus it's an extra $100+ every couple of weeks that mine all mine it doesn't get spent on the house and kids. If I'm not too busy at work plan to finish a new form (don't you wish you worked with me making up new forms to use LOL) hey it gets clinical ladder points and this one will be worth having because a nurse is making it not somebody locked in the basement that has no idea what we do. OK ttfn gotta get the shoes on hi-ho-hi-ho
WHEW
I just got back from an ALS transport. 70 y/o AcIWMI, received Retivase 15 min before scooping and hauling to the interventional cath lab 20 miles away. Code 3 through rush hour traffic. Pt had 12 mg MS tot and still having CP. 8 minutes door-to-door.

the delivery I had today was pretty easy. The pt got there right after 7am she uses an older doc...very sweet man but will drive you nuts. He decided he wanted a sono to measure fluid and for position right before starting induction so the sono didn't get done till 9:30 then started the pit. He finally came and broke her water about 3 and she delivered at 6:45. That's a good delivery because after 3 we have to clean the rooms so if they deliver after 17:30 they don't move to post partum until after 1900 and nights cleans the room...sorry nights..but the night shift nurses kissed me and thanked me since they didn't have to deal with that doc I just ignore him and tell him to go away and I'll call when I want him with the less experienced nightshift he'll sit at the nurses station for hours and want to check them every 5 minutes. We had a couple of NST's in and out but nothing else big so a good day.
Tanning bed at 8 as soon as I could get there (got out of work early at 7:15)
home to sort Avon order got my helper's order sorted and she was picking kids up from bible school
Checking mail (snail and online) then
will sort the rest of the orders so I can deliver before work tomorrow (I'm incharge post=partum) so hope to get this sorted and in bed before 11 and get up at 5 so we'll see....
and how was your day everyone?
gonna pack today for my trip to Fla tomorrow...now that the tropical storm is coming....
Yeah, it's heading your way. Be very careful on the road.
we're debating now leaving in the morning or waiting till Sunday. If we leave in the morning and make the time we usually do we'd make Destin between 3 & 5 right when the storm hits which would be stupid unless it would turn to TX.
I'm glad I didn't read this yesterday....
Today, I have done nothing. Got up, went to work. Haven't worked. Got lunch. Am eating now. Shitty day and week for me....
Just got back from the week at the beach. Spent the days sunning and reading books, walking on the beach in the mornings and/or evenings. Went on a SeaBlaster cruise that was fun. Went to SeaSide where the Truman Show was filmed..nice place to see wish I had 1/2 the $$$ it takes to live there. Just got home a while ago and checked the mail, now the e-mail then hopefully early to bed. Me and another woman I work with shared the sofa bed which was in the living room connected to the kitchen and there were a couple of early risers (5am so no sleeping in on vacation) they'd be up making coffee then they'd stay up late to watch chick flicks so we didn't get to bed too early either. We didn't get any bad weather in Fla just a little sprinkle one afternoon after we'd already had beach time the rest of the rain was at night.
Hi cass, nice to see you back.
looks pretty calm while I was gone. One of the hospitals where I was vacationing had a recruitment cruise I wish I'd have heard about it before the day the cruise was held. I'd have gone just for the cruise and the goody give aways. I go back to work tomorrow unless I'm called off for low census. My name is at the top of the call off list since I hadn't been there to get booted maybe someone else will request low census.
here I am talking to myself. I felt like yuck yesterday so laid around most of the day. I skipped a picnic/potluck I'd been planning on going to. The phone rang at 6:15. It was work and I'd forgotten I was on-call. Someone had called in for 7-11 (not a new problem why she's still working there I don't know) but they were going to do a c-secction ASAP on a pt with HELLP as soon as they could get platelets in to get the count over 50. I got there aby 6:45 and at 7:20 PLT's were 52 so went to OR did the section, then recovery got home just after midnight. Now up feeling better. Have to take the 6 yr old to swim lessons in an hour then bring him home for lunch and will take him back to swim this afternoon and I'll bask in the sun and read a book...and create a new headache

I have Shingles! Good ole herpes zoster
I get it every year. YES, every freaking year. I usually get it at the very beginning of the summer, when I first get out in the sun. First time was 3rd grade.
The good news is it's never been larger than a half dollar.
It started at the bottom of my hairline on the back right side of my neck. Every year, it comes back a little lower, evidently traveling along a nerve. This year it is right in the middle of the back of my neck, and worse than I've had it in a VERY long time.
I don't know of any other cases in young people that are recurring like mine.
When I first got it, they didn't know what it was. When it came back, they said it couldn't be shingles. Well, that was about 20 years ago...
Let me tell you how bad that sucks! It hurts!
one of the LPN's I work with was just saying today she thinks that's what she just broke out with again and was going to get medication for it.
OUCH shortbus . . . thank goodness for antivirals. Hope you're feeling better.

I got in to see the doctor at 8am this morning. They called me in some acyclovir yesterday but wanted to see me anyway...
They gave me a shot of Depo, a medrol dose pack, and 30 Lortab. I told the Nurse I didn't need 30 Lortab and she looked at me like I was crazy. We both said, "I/you can save 'em" at the same time.
I hate to have that many though because I know I'll take them for every little thing. I'm not a druggie or anything, but I'm definately a hypochondriac.
Anyway, hopefully the steroids will keep me from having too much of a reaction to the Acyclovir. I was hoping to get some Zovirax cream to put on the blisters but oh well.
So now I'm eating horse pills five times a day for a week and taking that dang dose pack. Man, that stuff tastes so horrible. It basically starts to dissolve right when it hits your mouth so it's like chewing tylenol or something. Just NASTY!
After the prodromal period, is it still that painful?
Depends on how far it gets. Once you've got vesicles/nerve involvement, the post-herpetic neuralgia can last for years. Tends to be especially severe in seniors who get it.
Luckily Aaron's got age on his side in that respect.
The Mayo Clinic describes it here:
"During an initial infection of chickenpox, some of the chickenpox virus can remain in your system, lying dormant inside nerve cells. Years later, factors such as age, illness, stress or medications can reactivate the virus. They can also reactivate for no apparent reason.
Once reactivated, the virus travels along nerve fibers, causing pain. When the virus reaches the skin, it produces a rash and blisters, known as shingles (herpes zoster). A case of shingles usually heals within a month. But some people continue to feel pain long after the rash and blisters heal. This pain is known as postherpetic neuralgia."

I got an e-mail yesterday that another local hospital had my resume so I went on an interview today and got another perdiem job. The pay isn't any more then my full-time job and they don't have any real rules about have to work so many shifts per month. My full time job had started using this staffing grid and our census had been low so if you wanted paid you had to take PDO and I'm down to 60 (and I like to take a vacation for vacation) so now I can save the PDO when I get called off and replace the $$$ someplace else. I'll go to orientation in Aug after I get back from my next vacation (Jensen Island for a week starting July 8th plus I"ll be someplace else hanging out for the 5 days after that week just haven't come up with where yet) Oh then clinicals start Sept 7 and I'll probably do a couple of lectures also since they haven't replaced the full-time staff that resigned.
I'm talking to myself again and now I"m going to answer. Does anyone else work today? I'm getting ready to go in. I know it's quiet now but it will probably get stupid July 4th usually does. Had a woman come in already last night after a ATV wreck....24 weeks pregnant should NOT ride ATV's. Most of ours will be pregnant women who went out on the river got dehydrated, overheated, lighted fireworks for their kids, ate too much now they think they are in labor they ate so much and of course the ones riding with or hit by drunk drivers if not drinking themself.
Working on the 4th
Yeah, I'm here at work. Cass you sound like you work at Redneck Memorial Regional Medical Center and Tractor Supply. <j/k>

yep they'll hire you if you can drive a tractor or milk a cow

We really weren't too busy today just 1 c-section early but I got out of there before the nightshift hit that's when they all come out. ...we had carry-in today and I ate wayyyyyy to much. There were 10 people who brought in food and we invited the 1 MD and his wife they were going to eat out after he did rounds, anesthesia was there for a case, respitory, housekeepers and still had more to stuff to eat at shift change to make myself really sick.
