Belin School of Nursing gets new location

Bellin College of Nursing digs new Bellevue location | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press-Gazette

BELLEVUE — The village welcomed its first university Wednesday with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Bellin College of Nursing.

Construction of the college, currently on South Webster Avenue in Green Bay, has been ongoing for the last few months, but college President V. Jane Muhl said they wanted to hold the ceremony when the students and faculty could participate in welcoming the new campus. About 300 people attended Wednesday's event.

"After all, our new campus is the future location of the college, but our students are the future of health care," she said.

The nearly 73,700-square-foot facility will be at 3201 Eaton Road, adjacent to Bellin's Family Medical and Wellness Center, also under construction. The goal is to have the campus complete by mid-2009 to coincide with the school's 100th anniversary, Muhl said.

The college had been searching for a new location for some time, because the Medical Arts Building, 725 S. Webster Ave., no longer had sufficient space. Plans for the campus began in 2005, but the college hit several roadblocks, including an effort to move to Allouez that fell through last year.

"By January, we had determined that after reviewing 30-some locations in the greater Green Bay area that the property we are standing on is just the right location for the college," Muhl said.

The college has raised about $7.5 million of the $10 million needed for the campus, including large donations from Shopko and KI Chief Executive Officer **** Resch.

Vicki Hutterer, who is in her senior year at Bellin College, said the new campus will be a great asset.

"When completed, our students will be proud of this facility, just as we are proud of the education we receive at the Bellin College of Nursing," she said.
