Four practical nursing students from Lee County High Tech Center Central recently won first place in a national competition, the Lee County School District announced this afternoon.

The competition was the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses “PN Student College Bowl.

The federation is the professional organization for licensed practical nurses, licensed vocational nurses and practical/vocational nursing students in the United States. The organization sponsored its first Student Day as a kickoff to its annual national convention, which was held in Orlando.

The students in attendance were given additional hands-on training in blood glucose monitoring, dressing changes, tracheotomy care and indwelling catheter insertion.

They were provided a luncheon with entertainment and learned more about the professional organization.

The students also learned additional information about safe medication administration and documentation, patients’ perspective on nursing care, and the challenges of of being a licensed practical nurse.
