UPEI names nursing school for co-founder

The University of P.E.I. has named its school of nursing's main teaching facility after the woman who helped create the school in 1992.

The facility will be named the Dr. Vera E. Dewar Learning Resource Centre. Dewar helped open the school and was assistant director of administration of the P.E.I. School of Nursing, the predecessor of the UPEI Nursing School.

Dean of nursing Kim Critchley said Dewar exemplifies leadership.

"Her expectations of excellence have made a significant impact on nursing education and nursing practice in Prince Edward Island and the many parts of the world where our graduates have lived and worked," Critchley said in a news release Wednesday.

Dewar grew up in Brudenell, and her nursing career has spanned more than four decades.
