EFFINGHAM — Students from Teutopolis, Stewardson-Strasburg and Dieterich high schools recently participated in “Men in Nursing” at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital.

The students shadowed professionals in a variety of departments, including emergency room, surgery and critical care.

During the surgical rotation, students observed a knee replacement and cataract surgery. The students also met with Chuck Schuette, director of patient care, who gave advice about preparing for college and career.

The event, in its fourth year, is sponsored by St. Anthony Memorial Hospital and Lake Land College Partnership Program.

After the program, students said they learned there’s more to nursing than they thought, said Diana Glosser, director of Perkins Programs. She said students also commented that they liked learning about policies and procedures in the hospital and seeing what nurses do on a daily basis.
