Thinking about LVN School in Texas - questions

Hi,

I live in Texas and am thinking about becoming an LVN.

I live in Dallas and there is only one college in Dallas that I know of, that has an LVN program. There don't seem to be a lot of schools that offer LVN training - why is that?. I could try one of those vocational schools, but I'd only consider one that was fully accredited. Does it matter much to employers if you received your LVN through a vo-tech school or a regular college?

I am planning to get a CNA first to get some experience and wondered if this would help me get accepted into nursing school.

I'm not sure where you're at in Dallas, but I am just about to graduate from Trinity Valley Community College's VN program in Kaufman. The program's nice and small, and it's offered by the community college. There really aren't many VN programs in Dallas, but I loved going to TVCC. Just some food for thought. They also offer a Patient Care Tech program, which is basically the same as the CNA.

I don't really know if employers care about vocational training or college training. Sorry!

Thanks, I only live about an hour's drive from Kaufman so it might be a consideration.

Is it competitive to get into the program?
