Hi everyone this is my first post. i am new to travel nursing, so new actually that i havent even started my first assignment yet! I am supposed to start in san diego next week ( i live in washington) but my recruiter told me i had to agree verbally to the assignment and then it would take some time to get the contract written up. so i did and i quit my job as a staff nurse and now the contract that was written up states $4/hr less than what she told me and the sign on bonus wasn't included. She says she cant change the pay rate but thats not true is it? I have a feeling that she can change it but that she lured me in with the larger dollar amounts and now that i am stuck without a job, etc. she thought that i would just agree to the amount or maybe she just thought i wouldnt read my contract and sign it blindly.?? anyone had this type of experience? its with one of the amn branch companies.
thanks in advance for your replies

Did she quote you a flat rate or blended rate? If she quoted you a blended rate, then the flat rate is probably what's on your contract. Blended rates average out your 12 hour shift's pay (8 hours of regular, 4 hours of OT- anything over 8hrs is OT in California).

What hospital in San Diego will you be working at?

NEVER take a job until you read the contract and make ammendments, etc. They used pressure tactics and then switched their word. I would call the company administration and report your situation and see if they will help you.
I've had that done to me as far as in written contract states a lower amount and I have them fix it.
AMN did a BLENDED rate. Don't use them again.

AMN tried to change my contract as well, withholding a portion of my contract that stipulated a completion bonus offered by the facility. I had to keep reminding them that they needed to put the addendum on my contract. They finally did.

I hope you have not signed that contract. Just because you verbally agreed does not mean you can be held responsible. I traveled with AMN last year and they pulled the same stuff with me on my third assignment. If you have signed, you can still get out of it. Just don't go. They won't sue you because it would cost them more than they feel you owe. Don't get yourself into something you may regret. Always, always review your contract before making a commitment and before signing. Good luck.
