Hello, thought I should introduce myself too as Im new here also. Im a 'Community Staff Nurse' in Dorset, UK. Absolutely love my job, i get to drive around in beautiful countryside visiting patients in their own homes (sometimes not so good). I can do my shopping in between visits (we're not really supposed to but we all do)!!!.
I live with my partner and his three kids (bloody hard work sometimes) near where I work from.
I enjoy yoga, jiving, ballroom dancing, reading, walking, love travelling in our old classic VW camper van and love music, any music really, as long as it touches me in some way!!!1
Dont know what else to say really except Im looking forward to visiting this site often from now on. Its brilliant.
Hello to all:cool-nurse:got to go to work now, fasting diabetic blood to do:eek:

There are other Brits, but haven't seen them lately (!). Hope you set a precedence. Just an aside...do I count, being a 1/4?

We have ice on snow right now, and dear husband just brought me coffee. What a way to start the day.

Well, i reckon as you are the administrator, for someone who holds a such a high position, we should accept your quarter Britishness:nurse-beer:But which quarter though? So what sort of a nurse are you then?
Do you have the equivalent of Community Nurses in the US? Im sure you do, what do you call them?
id be interested to know how their role compares to ours, anyone know?

I'm actually 2nd in command. :D

As for the Community Nurse, I would figure it's the same as ours.... What ARE your duties, so I can figure it out. Home Health nurses here do private duty in homes, visits....

And my mom is the one who's half Brit. Her paternal grandfather emmigrated. Guess the family went from near the Scottish Border, down to the Devon/Cornwall area.

hello 'Living dead nurse', nice to meet everyone here. So Cougar nurse, your folks arent far from where I live in Dorset. Devon/Cornwall are the next counties in the south. I holiday in Cornwall every year. Nice part of the world.
As for the role of the community nurse, we visit housebound patients (some prove not to be so) taking bloods, wound care, leg ulcer care, suture/clip removal, bereavement, palliative care, incontinence problems, post op care, support, hickman/picc line care, terminal care etc, etc....
Any similar role your side of the pond? And tons of bloody paperwork, meetings, training....:nurse-hang:

Home Health, Hospice, Community Health (can be through local Health Dept.)..... Wound care can be under Wound/Ostomy, but I consider that a seperate entity unto itself.

Paperwork stinks alright!

Nicky, forgive Soldier. He's from Texas, and hard to understand at times himself (sorta like an American version of a ****ney accent).

Soldier, the term 'bloody' is a pretty strong cuss word 'across the pond'. I use it only because 1) it gets by the filters here, and 2) the typical American doesn't get it. :nurse-rofl:

Oh Soldier nurse, Hi! why cant you understand my posts then? Is it that they arent coming over right or that I speak a different language and I really dont mean to be patronizing here, honestly. Maybe Im not explaining myself properly, what is it you dont understand? I'll try to be clearer:rolleyes:

Cat, I'm not ignorant to the british application of the word bloody.

BTW, I'm very proud to be a Texan. However, I'd much rather ask for forgiveness than permission any day.
:p

Hello to you all!! Im sure I will enjoy posting and 'talking' to my peers across the water:cool-nurse:So Soldier nurse, youve got a Mini Cooper eh? Cool!! I had one of the originals some years ago. I loved it, but sadly it just died and I couldnt afford to keep it going on a student bursary. Now I have a classic VW camper van. Such a lot of fun!!!!!
Can anyone recommend a really good dude ranch? You know, where us Brits can go play cowboys for real. its my 50th in two years time and we want to do something different, and Ive wanted to go to the States since I was 5yrs old.
So any info would be greatly appreciated....
