Whereas this is NOT Neuro Intensive Care material.....have you heard of Acardi's Syndrome? Affects only females (though there has been one male affected with XXY genetics).
Acardi's has the Corpus Callosum affected.
Hey guys,
I have been scowering the annals searching for articles supporting one of my current research projects, and I just so happened to come across the following video.
YouTube - Severed Corpus Callosum
The man in this video had suffered from three or four seizures daily and was constantly unsure as to when the next seizure would strike. Therefore, surgeons found it beneficial to actually split his corpus callosum, the 4 inch structure in the brain which connects the left and right cerebral hemispheres. In doing so, the now severed hemispheres have learned to work independent of one another. In the expirement, you will see a normal individual(who you might remember from ER) attempt a task involving the use of both hemispheres at the same time versus the individual with the severed corpus callosum. The results are truly astonishing.

I am familiar with the condition, having just looked it up in one of my textbooks, but am not that familiar with Aicardi Syndrome. It is definately something I will read up on.
Does this condition only manifest itself in infants and neonates, or is this simply coincidence that every instance I am reading about involves infants?

Having worked with a child with the condition, this is what I am sure of: Manifests self in infancy with the seizure activity, eye problems, and delayed growth. Each child has varying symptoms, but the C. C. is involved. The child I worked with is no longer with us, but did leave an imprint on my life.
