what is some of th best sounding yet light weight stethoscopes out there? i have heard there are ones that work so well that you can even hear thru a shirt? is that true and if so what brand is this? thanks trying to upgrade my equipment:nurse-sun:
I have the Littman Master Classic II and the Littman Master Cardiology. These are some excellent stethoscopes. Whenever we land on the scene, our patient is usually waiting in an ambulance where we take a chance to listen to their breath sounds, etc. Given that noisy environment, it is quite important to have a good quality stethoscope, since we cannot hear anything with our stethoscopes in the chopper.
I would recommend the Master Classic II, it is the cheaper of the two. You can get one for around $100. The Master Cardiology runs about $200.
thanks i really appreciate that. i currently have the ultrascope.
ADC makes good scopes as well. Cougar posted something on a digital scope a while back(but those will run you about $1,000), and if you aren't a Cardiologist, I see no reason to pay that much.
Not sure if that was in response to someone else's post. I have Meniere's, and iffen my ear is acting up....NOT good.
Remember the stethoscope you were talking about that created somewhat of an EKG tracing from auscultation?
Can't find the bloody thread. And I SWEAR it was someone elses OP.
Ah, I stand corrected. It was educator nurse that posted this in the news thread. You were the one that told me where to look for it.

I am used to all the Nursing News section posts coming from you, I suppose.
Gad! I try to find things that are interesting/related to our profession. Not adverse to others throwing in their 2 cents or $2. :D
lol i don't think i would ever pay that much for a stethoscope any how. lol esp since some people are too tempted to steal them
We have had that problem in a couple of ambulance services I have worked for. You put your littman up in your rig and all the sudden it is gone. Now, a stethoscope I can understand why someone in the profession would want to steal them, but what is the deal with everyone wanting to steal oxygen masks, BVM's, Et Tubes, and EMT Scissors? lol.
Btw, cougar--did I ever tell you that you are my hero:banana::cool-nurse::banana:?
hmm how about gait belts, scissors, lotion, and most things that are not tied down, lunches lol i thought about making some laxitive brownies when the lunch theiving was happening
I will never understand what drives some people to do the things they do. I imagine that there is an EMT somewhere with about 20 Trauma Kits under his bed, packed with ET Tubes, 2x2's, 4x4's, PTL/Combi, etc. Oh, and 4 stretchers leaned against his wall for him to sit on as he sits by his police scanner awaiting the TennCare taxi to bring him more goodies.
Too funny! :nurse-rofl: Maybe a homeless person on the bed?
Maybe the hospital 'acquired' the bed?
