A nursing instructor at Montana State University in Bozeman will use a 2-year grant to advise the Blackfeet Tribe about care that alleviates pain and suffering caused by serious illness, particularly cancer.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation awarded the grant to Yoshiko Colclough (KOHL'-klow), an assistant professor of nursing at MSU.

She and partners plan to interview four groups to learn about cultural values that could influence work with the tribe. The groups will include the chronically ill, and people who have lost family members to chronic illness. Groups also will consist of caregivers, both family members and professionals who have provided end-of-life care.
