I love the adventure! I love the money! The people have been fabulous. But I have a question. How do I fight the loneliness. I am traveling alone, a million miles from family. I've never lived alone. Work is great, but my days off... well that's another story. Help! How do I meet other people? I meet them at work, but they all have lives... I'd like to explore and see the sites. But doing it alone is no fun. Please Suggestions!!! Thanks

Hello there. I am so sorry you are lonely. I am lucky and get to have my husband with me now. I remember traveling alone is was aweful until you made friends. For you next assignment try looking for somewhere you know someone or have met on the fourms here. Come to Tucson.....we have tons of travelers married and single I am sure you would fit right in. Keep smiling.

I am sorry that you are having trouble meeting people. Sometimes it is hard. I started out traveling with a friend and go it alone now,and some places are harder than others to meet someone in. We would also ask the locals "What is the one thing you would not miss in your town?" and that seemed to open doors. Also look to hook up with other travelers at your facility. <font color="purple">

Hopefully, someday the "user map" on this site will populated enough that we will have to break it down into 50 plus state maps and you can meet travelers in your area that way!

I feel the same way. I guess we have to find a travel buddy. What are your interests, what do you like to do on your days off? How old are you? I will be 40 next week. I have been traveling for several years now and for the most part it has been good because I traveled with a family member but now I travel alone and I feel your loneliness. I am in California right now too. Write back and let's see if we can become friends and maybe travel buddies.

Try the web site match .com. I know a lot of nurses who have met some really great people and gorgeous men on this site. You can read someone's profile, what they look like, where they work, etc, and don't have to email them if you don't want to.

the recommendation to come to Tucson is an excellent one ... there are travelers everywhere!!! By the way,I do travel with my husband of 1 1/2 years, I mention this because I did meet him online 3 years ago. So, the computer is an amazing and wonderful tech for these days.

I feel the same way -- It is very hard not knowing anyone when you get to a travel assignment - finding things to do much less your way around -- It would be great if there was a place we could go to post where we are so that we could hook up with other travelers.
Would be nice to find other travelers that feel the same and stay in touch with each other -- so maybe if we are in the same area or even plan to travel to the same place-- we would know we had friends to talk with.

I still have not seen Tracy back on the forum to check out our replies... I guess that means that a friend has been found, at least I hope so

As for the post about delphi forums... What? You've already found one of the best forums on the net!

We may not be able to help Tracy out with any "face" time to fight the loneliness, but we can offer up som good conversation here at the forum AND in our new Chat Rooms. You can even have private chats with other members.. it really is pretty cool.

And Tracy, if I were there in CA, I'd look you up and take you out for coffee or something, and some good old conversation. You see, there are friends around every corner, if we just open our eyes and come out of our shell.

See ya'

The reference to delphi was just another link to travel nurses. It wasn't meant as anything against this forum.

Sometimes one can't have enough help out there as a traveler.

I have traveled alone and with my husband. He got on the internet ahead of time and checked out the areas we were going to and made contacts before we got there. We found church activities that were helpful. A memorable time was when we went to Lincoln,Ne and he got up in church and announced that we had come to Lincoln for the winter! We enjoyed many activities with the church although we did not make personal friends there. Many churches have social activities and classes planned that you would enjoy. I did meet another travel nurse from the midwest o n my first assignment and we took assignments at the same facilities 3 times in 4 years. Between times,we kept in touch by e-mail.We also keep in touch with family by e-mail-this will keep your long-distance phone bill down. You can use phone cards and cell phones.also. Another thing you can do is invite family members to spend a week-end or a few days with you to see the local sights. Some of our children and my sister were able to do this-we had a hide-a-bed sofa and I always requested this after the first time I had one. We also had a blow-up mattress. We had a lot of fun!

Host a traveler party in your apartment complex invite all travelers and locals in your housing complex and job site.Let it be known on the job that you are looking to try some local activities and would welcome anyone of similar interest who would like to come along.

My Space for Nurses (universefornurses.com)

Hi, I have been having the same problem of loneliness during my travel nursing experiences. I have discovered a site called Universe for Nurses . It is designed like myspace and is for all nurses all over the world. I think it is really beneficial for travellers. It is fairly new at this time but hopefully it will become more well known and will be beneficial to all of us in the near future. Tell all your nurse friends to join. It is completely free and has live chat and IM options, as well as several more. Hope to see you there.

Hello! I am looking for someone to travel with. I can't seem to find anyone. My husband did travel with me but now he wants to stay home. I don't want to travel by myself, it's a lot better when you have someone to go do things with. I am ready to travel! Email me and lets talk, maybe we can get an assignment going somewhere and have fun! d_chisolm@hotmail.com

I tried match.com and e-harmony. I spoke with a few men, but no connection. Of course i did not give it a fair try--only a few months. How long were u a member before meeting your husband?

Godslove:

I did not meet my husband on the web. We met in the parking lot of the apartments we both lived in. That's been 10 yrs ago. He is wonderful to travel with, but now just wants to stay home. So, I guess it's time for me to travel, but I don't want to travel alone. Still looking for a travel buddy!

Hey! I'm new to traveling! I've been a pediatric Oncology nurse for a year and I'm looking for something new! I want to leave in Jan. 08 and go somewhere fun and exciting! I was thinking Texas or Cali, but as long as its warm and a big city, I'm open!!!! Let me know if you are looking to travel around the same dates!

Hey Ashley,

I am currently on my second assisgnment in San Diego and love it. I started with some great girls but they all left at the end of a 3 month contract and I resigned for another 3 months. I was actually thinking about LA or Las Vegas next. Are you interested in a traveling buddy at all? After about 9months on the road alone I am beginning to think one would be nice.
amcerwick Aug 6, 2007, 4:16 AM
I too have found traveling to be somewhat lonely. Are there any travelers in San Diego right now who would be interested in hanging out and seeing the sites, going to the beach, etc?
Ashley9573 Aug 6, 2007, 7:47 AM
Hey! Traveling with a buddy sounds great! LA sounds even better ;). I haven't heard anything good about Las Vegas though. E-mail me and we can talk about it more: Ashley9573@bellsouth.net!

It does get lonely at times, doesn't it?
I am a traveler in northern CA considering a coastal CA , Oregon, or Washington destination next, but I would consider other destinations. I love outdoor stuff and enjoy going out at night to hear music (I am a musician), check out new places, etc.
I have been hiking, and have recently gotten a contact for rock climbing from the spouse of a patient I for whom I cared last week. Sometimes just getting out there and encountering people along the way is half the battle. On a hike, I met a couple, and the woman is a nurse at a hospital in Lake Tahoe. I never would have met her if I had not gone hiking that day.
