I wonder, also. I could swear I have heard stories about that practice.....
Thank you for your comments.
In Dubai, UAE, the Recruitment and Employment practices are very diffrent from the West. In the West, questions regarding age, sex, religion, nationality/race and politics are usually avoided. In Dubai , UAE , these are factors contributing to the employment of a person in addition to whether he or she is a fit for the job ( qualification / experience wise).
There are also pay scales involved in the recruitment of staff nationality wise. It is not discussed out in the open, but it is a practice that has been done in this country the last five years I have been here. For example A Western educated nurse with the same number of years experience as her Asian ( Asian qualified, Asian experienced) or Middle Eastern ( Middle East qualifications and experience) counterpart will be paid more. They justify this as the West having better schools, better standards of practice etc. The Department of Health in Dubai aims to change this soon and actually base payscales on performance , seniority etc.
Reeks of racism , doesnt it? Western nurses do very well here though. They are not happy that their Asian , Middle Eastern sisters get paid less, but unless the government sets a standard pay scale to be followed applying to all nationalities, public and private employers, there is really nothing we can do about it.
Being Filipina, I root that standardising payscales happen soon. But the way things are going, Im guessing it will be later rather than sooner..
