Well, I am officially hanging up my traveling boots- I accepted a permanent position, which means no more traveling for me! The position is a full-time nights ER position in Green Bay, WI, at the same ER I worked at before I started traveling. I start the 15th! Yeah!!! :)

Hi Amanda,
Congratulations! Now that you're done, how long have you been traveling? I had no idea that you were looking for a permanent position. A traveler who workied a few assignments on my unit returned to accept a permanent position. I suppose living in temporary circumstances would become tiresome after awhile.

About time! In a way, I know you're glad to stop traveling, and the option is always open to travel again.

I was traveling for about 2 and a half years. I've been looking for a permanent position for over 2 months, so I'm excited to have finally found something, especially a job I already know I'll like.
Not all of us are suited for mornings, Soldier. I hate getting up before 7-7:30 am, and prefer anything after 8. :p
Good for you Amanda. I thought you really liked the traveling.
Anyway, I hope you don't leave this site. You always have such good advice.
Happy for you......
I doubt she'll leave the site. Otherwise....... :crazy1: I will personally come looking for her. Better yet, I think alot of us will be looking for her.
Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere! :)
Yes, I prefer nights over days (I don't function well if I have to get up early in the morning).
I did like traveling, but it was getting to be very stressful, and after 2+ years of it, I am ready to settle down, possibly start a family.
Sounds good..all of your plans.
I wish you the very best and am so HAPPY you are staying on with us..You have so much wisdom!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on getting a job that you know you will like. I prefer nights myself. It is usually hard to get night shift jobs because those who have them, for the most part, don't want to change. Enjoy your new job! :)
After a dozen or so years of working nights, I couldn't wait to get off. I did enjoy it at first but chronic sleep deprivation, especially taking care of little ones during the day, was taking its toll on me. What nap? Every once in awhile I'll fill in, but would never switch back. Genetically speaking, I suppose I'm a true day person.

Yep.
Congratulations Amanda. I love night shift as well. The only thing that I have found sucks about night shift is that the food court is not open. Working at a trauma I, I have found that we have physicians in the hospital 24 hours a day, lab is always running and busy, radiology is always working(although sometimes unavailable due to high patient load), however the food court closes at 9:00
I think my next task in this life is to marry a rich woman and use the money to build a state of the art trauma center with all of the medical yadda yadda and the world's only 24 hour hospital food court.
I am the kind of person who wants Mcdonald's at 3 am, Burger King at 6 am, and Steak and Shake at 11.
I know what it's like to want something at 0300 other than whatever comes out of machines but I remember those problems from smaller hospitals only. Bigger medical centers where I worked nights always had 24 hour food service. It may not always have been good but it carried you through to daylight.
Many times after report, we went out for "breakfast." Sometimes it was pancakes, sausage and juice, sometimes it was burger, fries and coke, other times it was pizza with the works and whatever was on tap.

Yay! Green bay is awesome, I went to nursing school there. Nights are great as well, and if I remember correctly, St. V's cafe is open at night, and there's a tunnel between both hospitals that we used to use.... Now, tell me you are a packer fan too, and you'll be in heaven!
Let's not get into the football fight right now; it'd be Bears/Vikes over the Chedder Heads any day. Of course, that will be a TOTALLY different thread altogether. :D

Well, I was born & raised in WI, so yes, I'm a Packer's fan! When I lived in GB before I started traveling, I lived about half a mile from Lambeau field- we used to walk to games!
I worked at St. Vincent as a new grad- and yes, their cafe is open all night. I will be working at Aurora BayCare, which is on the other side of town (but much better in my opinion), and their cafeteria's food is MUCH better, & open for a few hours at night!
Well, we gots a fight on our hands here.
Fight? what fight? everyone knows that the packers are the best team in the world. Nothing to fight over. :)
Aurora is the one hopsital I didn't have clinicals at, but I know it's new. I loved Green Bay, and loved my couple years there. Winter is a little wearing at times, but the skiing is great!

Did you go to school at Bellin or NWTC?

...
LOL, the GB Mgmt did Brett Favre wrong! IMHO, the Packers are by far NOT the best team in the world.
GO COWBOYS!
Aww c'mon,
I just need to put one plug in for the Patriots here although originally I'm from Jets territory.

I'm a Bellin grad... couple years out, did their accelerated program. Got done, but man, i had no life during that time!
Brett Favre is amazing, I have the firm viewpoint that Ted Thompson should be fired, and while i still love the packers, they were very dumb to give up Brett as long as he wanted to play!
After hemming and hawing about retiring, coming back...... Weren't the Vikes interested, and he turned down playing for them? Hmmmmm. So much for playing.

Bravo! Reminds me of the Chicago Bulls mgmt disrespecting MJ & Jerry Jones firing Jimmy Johnson.

Pssst, he had arthroscopic shoulder procedure last month. My guess is he will make official statement regards to playing for the Vikings next month.
How the heck did we get off track? Thought Cougar said there will be a Football '09 thread when the time comes? :nurse-gun:
