Hey you guys! Hi! I am currently a prenursing student. I am applying to the program and we need to write an essay. we also need to answer a question given by the dept. here it is:

A nursing student enters the elevator at the hospital where they are assigned for clinical practice. Another nursing student enters the elevator along with an unidentified woman. The second nursing student exclaims that a code has just been called on a male client on the 5th floor, and he is not expected to live. The second student asks the first nursing student if they know anything about the code.
What should the first nursing student do?

If you were the only 2 in the elevator, there would be no problem. The problem is the third person. This is a HIPPA thing, meaning confidentiality.You are prohibited from discussing anything related to a patient in the presence of anyone who does not need to know that info. And even beyond confidentiality, this could be his wife and she has no idea what might have happened. Hope this helps
