It's never easy to place an elderly or disabled loved one in a nursing home, but the decision is getting tougher as Illinois facilities accept growing numbers of convicted felons and mentally ill adults who are under the age of 65.

Government agencies and nonprofit advocacy groups maintain Web sites intended for use by potential nursing home clients and their families, but these do not include critical patient safety information.
