Jane Kirkpatrick, associate professor of nursing, has been named head of Purdue University's School of Nursing and associate dean in the College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences, Purdue announced today.

Kirkpatrick's research focuses on the use of technology in nursing education and practice. She has been on the Purdue faculty since 1981.

According to Purdue, Kirkpatrick is author of numerous computer-based education programs. Kirkpatrick received the Pinnacle Award in 2004 and the International Tribute Award for Computer-based Education Technology from Sigma Theta Tau International in 2005 for her collaboration on a professional education program teaching nursing care in labor and delivery.

Kirkpatrick is taking over for Julie Novak who stepped down as head and associate dean in 2008. In September she became associate dean for practices and clinical director at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Novak is also a member of the Lafayette City Council for District 4. She previously told the Journal & Courier she plans to keep her permanent residence in the Lafayette and remain in office.
