I am going to study to become a nurse when I head off to college. I want to be a travel nurse. But I don't understand how to make everything stable. Lets say, I have a home to go to in New York City, and I am taking on an assignment in another state, I still pay for most of the bills in my home, but everything is payed for in the other state? (aside from personal things I would buy at a store), right?
And do I need to keep taking on assignments in different states constantly, when sometimes I would want to be home and working at home? It is like sometimes I would need a break, and would want to work around where I live but I can't just quit all the time to take on an assignment in a different state, so I am very confused! (BUT I REALLY WANT TO BE A TRAVEL NURSE) I mean then I will need money which is sort of obvious in this economy..

So how does that work? I really do want to travel and be a nurse but it is like 2-3 months a year I would want to stay home and just relax and see my family. But I don't want to be unemployed

With travel nursing you don't have to go to alot of states, just the ones that interest you. And you may be able to get a local assignment in your home town.. If you have an apt. I guess you would give that up or keep it and pay the rent or sublet it.
It will be years before you can travel so just keep reading this site and ask questions.

Like Kdog said, it will be years before you can start travel nursing, so use that time to research. To be a travel nurse, you will need to finish school, and then have a good 2-3 years of experience in your specialty as an RN before most hospitals will take you as a traveler. Some place used to accept 1 year of experience, but travel nursing has gotten more competitive, so now hospitals can require more experience.

As mentioned already, once you are traveling, if you want to spend a few months near home, you can take a travel assignment in your home area, or work PRN for a nursing agency in your area until you are ready to travel again.
