Are good CNA jobs that hard to find???

I am a 27 year old male trying to get into RN school. To try to get an extra point, I went to the local vo-tech and got my CNA liscense.

I have a few months till the spring semester starts(knock on wood I get in) so I though I would go ahead and get a CNA job at one of the local hospitals(Oklahoma City) to get some experience, start my benefits(Insurance, etc.), and make some extra cash.

Well, it's been two weeks, I have applied to all the major local hospitals, AND NOBODY WILL EVEN CALL ME BACK!!!!!

I don't understand this at all. I'm a student trying to work my way up, all I want is a job. I am definetely the type of person that would stick with the company that gave me my first job.

But heck, I can't even talk to a live person. Are these hospitals looking for experience? I mean, how much experience do you need to be a CNA. We all have to start somewhere.

Comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Shortbus,

    Congrats on passing your NCLEX.

I applied to Integris, Mercy, Mercy heart, and OU med center. It has been to weeks. Nothing.

Go back there and/or call them. I know here, at St. Mary's and Bass, you can walk in there right now and they'll hire you on the spot pretty much. Btw, looks like it's gonna come down to my Boys beating up on your Soonies again to keep them out of the Sugar Bowl . Poor sooners....

Well, you guys have our number, but you better worry about K-State first.

About the CNA thing, I think the most frustrating thing is that I haven't been able to talk to anyone.

It's all automated, fill out an Application, then we might call you.

You would think a major hospital would go out of its way to hire a future nursing student. I WANT to work for the same hospital for a long time. I WANT to earn experience and work my way up.

I'm not looking for a hand out, or money for school, I just want a job.

I hate being a grown up.

It depends on where you want to work. Most Nursing Homes are always hiring, home health companies also hire as well as hospices. If you got your home health certification while in CNA classes, you should not have any problems. Also, if you are already accepted to nursing school, that can be a marketing tool. Some hospitals will hire you as a nurse aide, nurse tech and will even assist with finances if you agree to work for them as a nurse upon graduation. Good Luck in your classes.
