Help! I really want to become an RN...

Hi there,

I am a 31 year old married woman with kids. I have been wanting to obtain a career in nursing since the 12th grade. I worked in corporate america for most of my life before I realized that's not the job for me. I currently resigned..I am trying to get enrolled in a college for RN. I don't have my prerequisities done as yet though. I just don't know where to start and don't have the money for the prereq. classes.

Can anyone out there help me? I am tired of waiting and waiting. I want to start this nursing career ASAP. Any suggestions?

I too worked in corporate America for 20 yrs before I decided to go back to school to become a nurse. I chose the route of an associates degree in nursing. I worked 40 hours a week and chipped away at my pre-reqs at night. My sons were 7 & 11 and I had a supportive husband at the time. It took me 3 yrs to get through them and to be accepted into the actual nursing program. I know at the time I was going through this all programs in my state were impacted and it was a just a matter of getting into a program. Becoming a nurse was a dream of mine since I was a little girl and there was no one or nothing that was going to hold me back. I come in contact with a lot of patients both young and old that make statements regarding oh I could never do that, my response to them is if I could do it at 36 anyone can do it. My suggestion to you is contact your local college or university and make an appointment with a health science counselor. Let them know your current situation, i.e. family, finances, etc. they should be able to get you started in regards to your course of studies.
