I'm always curious to hear the stories that are behind screen names. If you have one, share it with us. I know that some are embarrasing, but that's what's fun about it.
Let's have some fun. Don't be shy, tell your story, even if you don't think it's interesting.
travelpat I travel my first name is Pat LOL not hard to figure out I have other names in aol that are much more fun, but for professional I believe in KISS keep it simple stupid
My mom blessed me with a unique name may as well use it. Although, alot of people think I spell name wrong...... like I wouldn't know how to spell my name!!!
Cruzninabrze -- While sitting in a small local bar on the East end of St.Thomas,USVI and sipping a Cruzin rum (Banana)with a warm breeze in my face. Seems natural to me!!!!!!
What about CardiacWiz then? I can kind of guess, I guess, but you never know....
Mine, comes from my freshman year in College, when I was a pledge. To make a long story short, I asked a lot of questions--it also involves something called the ZOOMBROOM, but I'm not going to get into that....
Anyway, I kinda turned it around into a positive thing and it just stuck from there.
My screen name story isn't very interesting ,except to those of us from our school but here goes....I went to mercy hospital School of Nursing, they called us the "mercynurces" so I adopted the name as my own. Borign huh?
My screen name's just the first part of my nursing site so it helps identify who I am better- medi- for medi-smart. I figured since I got married now I'd better behave you know... and NOT use the screen name I used to use in racy online chat rooms... before I got married ..*LOL*
I don't think we have those sort of chats going on here... do we??? where?? where?? !!! hehehehe
Ok, I haven stopped by for a while and I notice you have grown oh so much!!! But I did want to add my 2 cents on the birth of my screen name. My screen name had to be something easy for me....so I chose the initials of my name and added what my hubby calls me. THUS......kegbat
Back in our Fraternity in college, we use to play a game called Kegball, where the bases were kegs and if you had to stop on a base you had to chug a beer before you could advance to the next one. There were many other rules as well to make you drink, so it was a great game. I thought your screen name was a given title becuase you were so good at that game. The all star of Kegball or something. Thank you for sharing with us, and don't be such a stranger.
I'm not very creative - Gatorade, when I registered on my first message board I was drinking a bottle of gatorade - this was the first thing I thought of, and now whenever I register somewhere I always use Gatorade as my screen name -
Diuretic Junkie--
In first year nursing school, my class was just learning about giving meds. The instructors were telling us about how narcotics and controlled substances like ativan are kept locked. One of the women in the class put her hand up and said, "What? You mean they don't lock up all the meds?"
The instructor then explained how they lock up meds that people would be likely to take or abuse. She still didn't get why we didn't lock up all the medications and kept on about it.
So the guy sitting next to me leans over as she's going on about it and says, "I'm addicted to diuretics!" So I became Diuretic Junkie, just because it's funny.
WindingRoad.. From the Beatles. And the fact that I am a traveling nurse.

tha-a-a-t leads you to my door...Isn't that it??? Of course I am older than dirt so I could be wrong..

Ah read my post in the General Discussion on TNT.. It will become clearer..
WR,,, three commas for Becca
I take it you get the mere kat motto..:))
Opps just checked that post and I didn't explain the three commas for Becca thingy.. Well, short story,,, I was accused on TNT of yelling and being "difficult" MOI?? because I used too much punctuation.. Now is that anal or what?????? So I use three commas for Becca now just cuz I can......LMAO...
After learning about IV med administration and blood administration, we had a 45 question test. The last question on the test was "Name two things you would not do while administering blood/blood products".
My friend chose to list about 5 things, the first four serious, and the last answer was "don't play Mission Impossible on a reconn mission with the blood on the way back to the floor"
Well of course I got pictures in my head of us ducking around corners, hiding in shadows, and riding the undersides of the stretchers as we try and sneak the blood back to the floor.
I don't know why it stuck, but my name has unfortunate beginnings. When I was 12 my mother treated me to my first perm as an Easter present at a home salon. No one knew that my hair can hold a perm almost as long as it would take me to grow it out. Well, this woman who did it was used to only using the tightest curlers ever, and that is what she used. Needless to say, my hair was the inspiration for Richard Simmons' well known hairstyle (or at least it seemed that way!). No matter what I did, every morning when I woke up, my hair looked like a coughed up furball. My mother would call it the unholy furball, and tease me that gel was my "holy water" that would exorcise out the hair demons. Once the kids at school heard it, it stayed with me to graduation, and my close friends from school still call me that sometimes........even though I now wear my hair straight. VERY straight!
This was a pretty good story. I know others have some embarrasing stories too, so I hope they share. Thank you Richard Simmons.....I mean Unholy, for sharing. That's a classic.
I got my nickname at Ft. Bragg from the Blood Bank Supervisor, my nickname is Dee. I am very proficient at preforming venipunctures, hence the name 'vampire'.
I am the 'virtual vampire', because I live for the moment. Put them together and you get 3Dee. I try to be empathic to each person that I come in contact with, especially whilst drawing blood. Now thinking about it I think I'll change all my screen names to <3dee_vamp>, yeah I like it!
P.S. To windingroad= I really like to use punctuation too! Since nobody can see all the stupid faces or hear the really weird noises I make -- punctuation is the only way I can express myself online!?!
Ok, here is the deal with my name: I am a sweetheart, more like a princess... but that's another story... and I am a CVOR scrub tech/nursing student planning on staying a heart girl. So... do I need to explain more or ya'll get it now??
ok here's an exciting story. My spouse's screen name used to be Cassio (I thought he got it from office machines)When we changed servers it got changed to Cassioo then I took it from him as I wasn't very active online right then and just shared with him but as I got on more lists and things he got tired of all of the mail and he left me the name. Anyway the original Cassio is a Lt in Othello's army and the spouse liked that so he took it. (he's retired AirForce) now he's honorablebob and I got his cassio
My screen name is actually babyblu, it is my eye color. I dropped the "baby" because there are so many "baby's" out there. I like to be a little different that is why there is no "e". Nothing overly exciting, but it is how I came up with blu.
I think I'll be replying here based on my interest on your name... which is Charles.... Nice name. ;-) Anyway, my screen name, which I had been using for, lemme see... 1,2,3,4,5,6..nevermind... several years now was derived from this cute little blue character The Smurf which was popularized back in the 80's. She was the only girl in that tiny community. I think she's really cute. And the prefix "juz4u" expresses my sincere desire to be of service to humanityText. (",)
Age rank and serial number...Nah we don't need the last two..
Now as to my new name here. Because of a slight misunderstanding which BTW has been resolved. I have changed mine here to WanderingRN. Of course it applies to my traveling but sometimes it applies to my memory. You know going to the nurses desk and forgetting what you're doing there. So you wander around thinking and suddenly it dawns on you what you wanted.. I'm sure some here are too young to understand.. Unfortunately, I believe it happens to all of us at some point.. Also, WanderingRN let me keep WR... Boy sometimes I scare myself with my ingenuity.
WR,,, three commas for Becca
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and sings it back to you when you have forgotten how it goes.
midnitemurph....well, I work nights, and my last name is Murphy, so I got tagged as "Murph" right off the bat. We wear royal blue so sometimes I get Murph the Smurf...
RocketRahRah87... I'm not sure if I need to explain all of this one or not... but I'm going to anyway. Ok first, I'm a cheerleader, which is where Rah Rah comes from. My school mascot is a Rocket, so there's the first part. And I was born in 1987.
Darlin' if you are getting the money you say you are in Ohio you are being jipped big time.. When I left Fresenius in 2002 in Maine I was making 22 and they offered me a 30% raise to come back they have the money.
I was just offered a position in Cincinnati at $35.. The U of Cin BTW..
I am working in RI now for a Fresenius unit. Staff. I have 3/3/3 on MWF Total care expect Epo. Another RN and I trade off dressing changes and Zemplar/Venofer duties.. The charge nurse gives Epo.. 11 stations.. Cake walk..
WR,,, three commas for Becca
Oh $35 here in RI working in a Fresenius unit.. Dialysis nursing is a very narrow speciality..We can demand and get $35..
My company has a contract at a hospital back in Maine for $35..LOLLLL
UC = University Hospital aka University of Cincinnati Hospital (most folks in town just call it UC)
this is the one hospital in town that cant turn anyone away, for any reason
primarily acutes, some convert to chronic and are kept until their medicare kicks in...then they're shipped out...
station 1: isolation (hep b), has closable glass doors to make it negative pressure for tb...
stations 2-7: average run of the mill dialysis stations
stations 8-9: this is for the apheresis pt's...
station 10: pre-op/post-op... this unit also has a procedure room where docs can work on accesses (C-arm included!)
and, of course, "the portables"... the icu pts that cant be moved...
and the manager... OOOOOHHHHH the manager!!! it has been ALLEDGED her favorite hobby is getting other nurses in trouble (up to and including getting them fired...) and has been that way for about 30 years or soooooo..... it has also been ALLEDGED, she's had HALF the dialysis nurses in town BANNED from working at UC...which is a part of the Health Alliance...and if you're banned from one, you're banned from all 6 hospitals...i have NOT heard of her going after another nurse's license, but it is my personal opinion that i would not be surprized ever to hear ...
Thanks for the info..Actually, they needed a nurse last Sept. But wouldn't hire me as a traveler as I have no Phoenix experience. Then this spring they changed their mind and said they would take me anyway..But I was miffed personally and will let them sit..Maybe forever now...
Besides I really don't want or need another nursing license. I am compact plus Cali and CT.. I probably will get my NV license as I love the area. Maybe for the winter.
Great Thread! I chose All41 (All 4 1 not 41) to represent the team approach to treating our patients. Ideally, together, we can make the outcome more positive in patient care.
My beloved Welsh Ponies name is Briget. She lives in my back yard. My whole life style revolves around her like living on 5 acres so she can have room to play. I LOVE PONIES!!!!!!
I love the name Grace, and nicknames for it. I once had a thing for a girl named Grace, she was the very first girl I met in college, and she ended up being the girlfriend of the president of our fraternity..needless to say, I got in trouble with the members for that one as a pledge......she is now single again and an attorney from what I understand.
Keep the posts coming on this one, this has turned out to be a good thread.
We have added over 1000 memebers since the last post in here. Let's here our new members stories about their names.....no matter how crazy or simple they are.
I live on Hilton Head Island in SC and I live at the beach on non-shift days so hence the Beachy part and I have my CEN certification(Certified Emergency Nurse). And that is that!

No real interesting story behind my screen name. I like sports, particularly swimming. Powerade is a brand name of a sports drink, I liked the name 'Powerade' and thus came up with the screen name Powerade.
We're g;ad you enjoy the site, I hope you keep coming back often, and tell your friends and co-workers about it.
I have a funny story about Nova Scotia, I use to tell people I didnt know I was from there, when I was out and about. The funny thing is I wasn't sure where exactly it was, so after one night of telling people that, and obviously no one knew where it was either, I had a girl call me on it, and so I was busted, since I was making up stuff and didn't know where it was...hahahaha....college life was so much fun......lol.
I was sitting one day trying to come up with a screen name that was completely different than my own name and next to me on my plate was a PB&J sandwich. That's how the Grapejam came to be. The 88 has to do with a meaningful year in my life.
No surprise with mine, I own a website, http://www.nursinghumor.com it' where I keep all my favorite medical, nursing jokes. It's my therapy after a long day on the floors.
Dare to Care, a notion put out by the johnson and johnson campaing for nursings future, and one that i take with me throughout my nirsimng education. We need to be ppl brave enought to care for our patients. Novel idea right?
Well I am a correctional nurse and have been for 16 years..I have been told that you don't have to be crazy to work where I do but it helps.. I have been asked many times if I work with crazies or if I am crazy myself.....well i am not sure LOL

Sugar and Acetone, can you believe we used to give people insulin based on that inaccurate dip stick test? And before the dip stick innovation, you had to mix so many drops of urine with so many drops of water in a test tube then drop a tablet into the solution. After it stopped bubbling you would compare the color of the solution with a color chart to find the relative blood sugar. Thank you Mr Accuchek.

OK I have heard that from the Fred Flintstone days guess not as old as tasting it to see if it was sweet huh?

YOU might be OLD SCHOOL if:
you know how to fold a "hospital corner".
[/ QUOTE ]
we still use a flat sheet on bottom for our labor beds. It wasn't too many years ago our hospital got fitted sheets. We don't have a laundry they still use a laundry service and pay per pound to have it washed.
YOU might be OLD SCHOOL if:
you have titrated Dopamine and Nipride on a patient in cardiogenic shock using urine output as the only indication of efficacy.
YOU might be OLD SCHOOL if:
you stood helpless while a person infracted large areas of their myocardium and provided only large quantities of morphine to them.
these are funny, but when I started nursing there were only glass bottles for IV's , not many central lines or PICC's, tonsilectomies were routine, people could go into the hospital and stay a week or 2 for testing. You never saw an IV in LTC, therapy was unheard of in LTC. we cleaned glass thermomenters in a solution. Betadine was used for everything from pre-op scrubs to douches. Bed pans have come along way from the white metal ones that had to be sterilized to our new and improved plastic disposables. "Those were the days, my friend, I thought they would never end". lol
You would see this a lot in Nursing Home (I can't bring myself around to call it LTC) patients. You would have some type of isotonic solution attached to tubing that would split into a Y. Then two narrow ga needles (25 or 27 g) that look like butterfly needles would be inserted either intradurmal or subcutaneous, usually into the top of both thighs. Then the fluid would infuse directly into the third space.
Actually, running fluid IV is called venoclysis. How's that for a Jeopardy question?
oh I had that for the first time recently we put it into the abdomen 2 small needles into abd. with y tubing connected to the IV. I just can't remember what they called it. That was the only time I had seen it or used it. ok for short time hydration tx. less invasive especially in the elderly who have poor veins to begin with.
You don't see many lamp tx. for wound care either. Do miss the betadine and sugar for decubes, healed many decubes with it. no infestions in the wounds. Those were the days
Rascal is short for Reasonable Rascal, my internet handle since "97. I explain by saying I may be reasonable but I am still a rascal, or vice versa. Some days I dunno, it could go either way. The rascal part tends to explain my sense of humor rather than a lack of social morals, BTW.
I don't think it was horror stories of other things given for K+ it was K+ given instead of things like saline flushes when they both came in 10cc vials with the same color lid and were kept in drawers. We used to mix our peds IV's D5 1/2 with 20K all the time.
the nurse manager of peds pushed K+ on a baby instead of saline while the baby was in her fathers arms (dad was a MD) needless to say that baby died, manager was suspended and later let go.
Pretty simple, really. I'm from Philadelphia, PA... AKA Philly. If you're from around here you know what it means, if you arent... Philly is a very large and diverse city, different parts are identified by where it is on the map... South, North, West, Northeast... etc.
Got my screen name from the movie Bottle Rocket which was made by the great Wes Anderson. He also made Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums, and The Life Aquatic. One of the characters in the movie, played by Owen Wilson, is named Dignan.
I've had this screen name and a few others since about 1990 when I first got interested in computers.
back then, there was no 'rea' internet like today. It was all dial-up and usually telnet.
When I started out, my original screen name was PRI$M. Multi-faceted crystal or glass that can bend light. My knowledge of computers increased, and I actually dabled in 'hacking' for a short time...writing a few simple DOS programs, which is how I got my 'new' name, "CrashVector".
a 'war prog' could do numerous things to a computer, like open or close the CD drive remotely, disconnect them from the internet if they were using dialup, etc.
The program I made was called "Divine Intervention" and was used mostly to get rid of annoying people while using mIRC. One guy was extremely rude one night, so I turned his computer off remotely, which caused his computer to crash because it wasn't shut down properly (ah, memories of windows 3.1)
It was that incident that gave me my name "Crash-Vector"
My screen name pretty much explains itself. My son, who just turned 20, is currently in the Army National Guard & will be leaving for Iraq around March 27. I'm so proud to be his mother because of what he's doing that I tell everyone I know that I'm an Army mother. He joined up after the war started but knew he wanted to join when he was 15.
Wow! Kegball sounds like fun game.. if you like beer! :) My name came from two songs I like from a band called Kittie. They aren't around much anymore but I still like it. :)
Many interesting stories and many that I can identify with.
Well, My first name begins with the letter R and I work in ICU- pretty straightforeward. I like to use "Sleepy" when it isn't taken because I worked nights for many years and it was a fitting nickname. I still use it for passwords. Keep the great thread going.
Geez! How the heck did I miss this thread? Well, the cougar is my school's mascot, and DUH, I am a nurse. Thus, cougarnurse. Also, a good Native American friend of mine (now dead) named me.....after a cougar. So, I guess the name is pretty apt.
