Especially once you been travelling for a while? I just started travelling in June '09, and could use my current boss and past job for references. However I'll have been travelling for a year this summer, with no plans to stop after that, and have been wondering who to use in the future for references. The last assignment I was at, the NM said that he wasn't supposed to (as a part of an agreement with my company) give references to travelers directly other because they might use them to go to other companies than the one I was with then. I haven't yet asked for one here because I extended and hope to do so again.

I am with a different company now, and obviously didn't have a problem because my old references are still within the last year, but is that a standard thing? Are references from your current travelling position hard to come by?

When I was traveling, I have used other travelers I worked with, doctors, managers, charge nurses, etc. as references. Anyone who has worked with you can provide a reference as to your work ethic, how much of a team player you are, clinical expertise, etc.

I get my own written evaluation at the end of my assignments from Charge RN or Nurse manager w a phone # too. This has saved me many times, espeicially when the travel hospital asks for an eval.
This way where ever I go, I'm set.
I downloaded an Employee Medical Evaluation from google.
I started this 1 year after traveling because alot of times the companies don't do evals and if they do, some won't given them to you.
