Hello everyone! I've been an RN for 11 years now. Will be finishing a masters degree in health administration in April. Looking to get in to a management position to make a difference in the lives of the staff so they in turn can make a difference in their patient's lives. I have kindness and empathy which end up hindering me with the typical strong, type A personalities in upper level management. So I'm thinking about maybe going into nursing home administration but I fear I would still be in that "corporate" type world and I know I would miss contact with the "people" (nurses, aides, the patients). So I'm torn as to what to do. My friend said that unless I own my own company/business, that I will always be exposed to supervisors who have that dictatorship style of management and there's nothing I can do. I disagree and keep my fingers crossed that I find a place where people truly care about each other as much as they do the patients. I just want to work somewhere, where administration is receptive to their employee's concerns and suggestions and where the staff feels respected and valued. Wish me luck!! And if anyone knows of a place(s) like this that I'm "dreaming" of, let me know. Thank you!!:yeahthat:

Welcome to the site, odyssey! Glad to have you aboard.

Health Admin., eh? Sounds interesting. I hope you share your knowledge with us.

Re: the Nursing Home Admin.: I say go for it. Yes, you have rules and regs to follow, but also, let the staff know you ARE there for them. I have had an Admin. like that (RN/N. H. Admin.). She was fair, and would explain reasoning behind what went on. You can still have contact with 'the people', too. I have confidence in you!

Hope to see you often on the site!
