still trying to figure something out

I just left a travel contract over a dispute about getting my time sheets signed on time for me to get paid. I only started there a month ago and for both pay periods I have worked, the manager failed to sign and submit my time so that I could be paid when I am supposed to. Anyways, the thing I still can't figure out is why it seemed to be such an unreasonable request on my part to want my signed time slip in hand for me to submit on my own on the day it was due. I've never encountered such a thing before. They seemed to take issue with the idea that I wanted to see my signed sheet before it was submitted so that if any disputes arose they could be handled before the time was submitted. I spoke with a supervisor of Preferred Health when this came up the first time and I asked that the signed form be faxed to my husband at work so that I could go over it and submit it myself. Her response to me, "I wouldn't go there", whatever that meant. At my last assignment I took care of getting my own shifts signed for and submitted the slip myself at the end of the pay period. In addition, with this new place no one was allowed to sign each time I worked. The whole thing for the entire pay period could only be signed at the end of the pay period and only by the unit manager who was't always available on the days I worked. I was told that this was so they could "verify" my time. This arrangement meant that if the thing was not signed and submitted by the nurse manager on time, my entire pay was held up, which is exactly what happened on both occasions of my first two pay periods. Naturally, the second time this happened, which was this week, NO ONE at Preferred Health was available to help me or even so much as answer a phone. I finally called the corporate offices so I could speak to a live human being about it and got it resolved and that took up half a day of a day off; something I really didn't appreciate. My agency also lied to me about their supposed attempts to reach me and return my calls. My recruiter said some woman claimed to have tried to call me but when I scrolled back on my phone to check the calls received, there had been no phone call from Preferred Health. The whole thing has me quite upset and pretty baffled. I'm still trying to figure out why a hospital and an agency would have such a problem with letting me see my time sheet after it had been signed so I could submit it myself. That has been the practice at every other place I've worked and I've never had a problem. This was at the same place that handed out a bunch of self-learning packets on the first day of orientation with the expectation that they would be done at home without having to pay anyone for it. Anyone else have this experience and what have you done about it, if anything? I'm going back to agency work where I can get my time signed for every time I work and know exactly when I'll be paid. I think I'm through with travel nursing.

Nurses there's a new site for you

www.GoHealthJobs.com is a new healthcare only job postings site. We have several nursing positions across the US posted so come to our site and post your resume to apply directly for any posted positions.

I am the Managing Partner for GoHealthJobs.com and the reason we built this site was my experience in working in healthcare and frustration when I tried to job search. Those general sites just didn't provide what I was looking for. I wanted to go to a site that had strictly jobs within my profession but without those annoying pop up ads and all of the marketing.

Visit GohealthJobs.com to job search and chat with other healthcare professionals

Feel free to email me with questions about our site or jobs posted @ Marisa@GoHealthJobs.com

Thanks all!

sounds like you hooked up with a lousy company that placed you in a lousy hospital. i found that some companies have exclusive staffing rights with some hospitals and those companies really jerk you around. it's good you got out befor you lost too much. i researched travel companies on ultimate nurse.com and have found rnnetwork to have a 100% recommendation rate and others have rated it quite high in their responses to the travel nurse dilemna. hms is also 87% recommended. you might want to consider changing companies. i worked for preferred and wasn't impressed. even now i call jennifer schogs at preferred and have deleted her from my call log.

It truly amazes me how many recruiters that cannot read and understand the English language. What part of "No Recruiters Allowed" didn't you understand?
