I was offered today a contract in oklahoma city on med/surg-oncology floor, $1200.00 a week (after tax). i asked the recruiter to clarify this amount. He said the pay was $580.00 a week housing allowance plus $198.00 a week for meals. How does this equal $44.25 per hour? When I told him I make $35.00 hour now he wanted to know where in Oklahoma I could get take on med/surg. Is this close to the going rate now... I work mainly per deim now, maybe I better rethink trying contract work again!

I see that you also live in Oklahoma- how far away from your home is the travel assignment? If your home is too close to the assignment location, you will not qualify for free housing/stipend.
I live in Muskogee, 2 1/2 hours from ok city, and yes the recruiter said that was why i qualified for the housing stipend! but no mention of milage was offered!

It is hard to compare when i can't get a straight answer for the recruiter.I called him back 1 last time and now he's saying the contract is for $14.50 an hour +$580.00 wk housing + 198.00 food, which he insists =$44.25 per hour. Unless I'm still not understanding I interpet that as $36.11 an hour. Not much incentive to drive 2 1/2 hours to Ok city and sit in ahotel and eat take out! But thats the first company thats talked salary with me so far. i am finally hearign back from some others-rnnetwrk wants more paper work, etc....
Thank you Traveltax for helping me clear that up. the recruiters can be very devious when all I want is the plain truth! I think i better pass on his offer, when i asked him some general questions about the agency itself he got really defensive-i think thats a warning!
