Why can't Alabama join in the nurse compact?

As a traveler, I called the Alabama Board of Nursing to ask why we are not in the nurse compact. I was told that Alabama feels this is a way for the "bad nurses" to get away with practicing without being accountable or some nonsense like that. I feel it is all about the money. Just wondering if enough travelers from the state began calling the board, if it would make a difference. As for me, I would love to come back home to work, but just can't afford it. The pay in the state is so bad that some of us have to travel to make a living!!

I would think that Nursys (?) would keep tabs on the 'bad seeds'?

It's all about money... they don't need nurse's so why bother? Alabama is considered a feeder state and will never change unless they get so short of nurse's they are forced too.... they not only pay poor but treat the nurse's like they are something they can just throw away..

I have felt ever since I have lived in Al that there was no respect for us as nurse's... this is why I travel. Just got so tired of the attitudes and being treated so badly..

I tried to go home to Alabama, Birmingham, to be exact, to work instead of traveling. Had to file bankruptcy before I could get another travel assignment and get out of there. I am a 20 year experienced cardiac nurse and all they could offer was $25/hr. I am now in Rhode Island on a travel assignment where they start their new grads at $25. what a slap in the face when you try to go home to work!!!!
