I graduated a few weeks ago from my CNA class and I take my state exam in a couple of weeks.
I applied to a few nursing homes and one manager told me they don't hire new grads, but they hired someone I know who has no experience as a CNA.
I really wanted to work there because I got to know the staff and residents.

Never take "not hiring" for a permanent answer when you are after something you really want. Sometimes DON's and staff developers are just moody...or busy. Be creative and persistent. Persistent doesn't mean being annoying with your approach, but rather not giving up until you succeed with your intended goal.
Write a letter to them thanking them for their time and consideration, even if they didn't give you very much. Check back soon and remember your contacts!
Update: I ended up getting a better job at a hospital instead of working at the nursing home.
