private institutions over comm coll

Counsel please!!!

I recently started working towards an LPN cert at a local comm. coll, where I hope to earn a certificate after two years, and be able to do my RN in one year at the same institution:fight:...my thots and understanding were that [1] a proper institution like this would help enhance my job chances, in the face of so many private schls with questionable curriculum..[2] I would be able to transfer my credits if i choose to study for rn, which is my goal...[3] the pace would enable me juggle work, family and academic needs

Problem: Friends are constantly telling me to enroll in a 1 yr program at a private schl....this is tempting for me but i do not want to compromise any valuable things that may come up in future....

? - does the state licence equalise all LPN irrespective of institution attended such that there is no advantage of one over the other in the job market [2] would I be able to transfer to RN and complete it as those who had their lpn certs from private schls?

Please break it down for me...merits and demerits

Many thanks

As long as the school is accredited by the state board of nursing, it doesn't matter if it is public or private. As far as your credits transferring, you would need to contact the school you plan to attend for your RN to see which schools they will accept credits from.

Welcome to the site. Yes, you are correct in your observation that a community college LPN program would be more beneficial. The majority of private school (proprietary) courses do not transfer. But as far as the job market is concerned, an LPN license is an LPN license. The type of program attended is not of concern to employers.
