I typed out a long post last night, and my computer crashed. I spent alot of today fixing it.

Anyway, I'm 3 years into nursing. I've worked Med/surg and CCU in a rural hospital most of it. Most days I still feel like an imposter- like who on EARTH decided I could be a nurse? I know it's silly, I'm a good nurse. I havne't made any major errors and am very careful. I've found most of the time when I ask a question I already know the answer.

So yesterday I got an e-mail from my manager asking if I would orient to CCU charge. I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack everytime I think about it. She said she thinks I'd be great at it, to think about it and let her know if I would, and what I need additional training in.

In our hospital- the CCU charge is the go-to person. I would handle rapid responses, have a list of orders I can make before calling the dr. I'm the one with the crash cart etc.

Is it normal to be this anxious and doubt myself so much, or do I just need to boost my confidence?

(btw- this is not a manager that pushes everyone to charge. There are others in my position with seniority, who are not oriented to CCU charge)

I haven't even oriented to med/surg charge yet. (I work both dpts)

Just want to say, I re-read my post, and the grammar stinks. I'm very sorry, but don't feel like going back and fixing sentence structures. I am fairly intelligent dispite the post. : )

Your manager really thinks alot of your nursing skills and judgement.
If you feel it is too much responsibilty then don't take it.

AprilRN- I think a lot of us RNs have felt the same way. I don't think your manager would ask you if she did not think you could handle it. I say go for it! It will only make you a stronger RN. And about "mistakes". I have made my share- but never the same one twice- that is how we learn. Good luck.
