Hello everyone - I am an internationally educated nurse from Ukraine. Now I am undergoing the assesment process of my docs at Manitoba college of nurses. I hope to take CRNE as soon as I am found elligible to write it and join a big family of Canadian nurses.

Best regards...:nurse-beer:

Welcome to the site! You will have to tell us how the training is in the Ukraine; I for one would like to heard about your training there.

Good luck on the CRNE!

Well...

The training itself in Ukraine does not differ a lot from the training in other countries. I mean that the basics are the same.
We have all ther subjects here as all other nursing students have around the world: Nursing in surgery, pediatrics, psychiatric, maternal/newborn etc. Nursing students in Ukraine do have comparatively good opportunities to practice in hospiatals. But of course that is far from the opportunities of Canadian or American students.

Just a few years ago only a Diploma in nursing was available for nursing graduates. But now due to the implementation of a new educational system - new nursing students have an opportunity to get Bachelor degree (4 year studies). And that's great - as not many provinces in Canada accept Diploma in nursing (2 year studies) - unfortunately for many Ukrainian nurses.

At work Ukrainian nurses perform all the duties from the Scope of practice of let's say american or canadian nurse. The only difference is that:

Firstly - to my mind - Ukrainian nurses are a little bit more dependent on doctors comparing to Canadian or American nurses.
While in Canada or USA nurses possess more freedom in terms of their actions while taking care of patients. And that's great!
For instance - in Ukraine we do not have Nurse Practitioners at all. While in Canada or US - such nurses can even prescribe some drugs and order some tests - just like doctors do.

Secondly - although Ukraine is not an extremely poor country - here in hospitals we lack some modern equipment. So not many nurses have an access to such equipment and not many can learn how to operate it.

But I repeat the basic knowledge that we get here is solid. And many nurses who have the plans to go to Canada or USA are eager to obtain new knowledge and skills and, of course, have all points for doing so...

Take care....

P.S. Do not hesitate to ask me if you have any questions.

Here in the States, a Diploma in Nursing = 3 year program. You don't see that too often anymore. It's the 2 year (ADN) or 4 year (BSN) that you see.
