Hello,

I was offered a contract with American Mobile. 28/hr and $1200 monthly stipend. I gave a VERBAL okay only, but stated I would have to talk to my husband first about stipend pay versus free housing, etc. No paper work was ever signed.

Today, I told her I could not commit to the assignment. She stated that American Mobile had the right to bill me 18/hr for 36 hours times the 13 weeks or $8000.

Will they really be able to collect $8000 from me, considering my signature is no where, and we were not even done negotiating stipend pay? Is this legit.

Thanks for the help.

NO you do not owe anything. You did not sign a contract. Almost every assignment I take I say sounds good but want to think about it AND that is not a commitment. That company has no legal power to charge you. Just think what a Contract attorney would say--" Let me see the contract" and there is none. You are free, run from this co. Never talk to them again or open their emails.

I also agree that if you ran this by an attorney you would find that you owe nothing as there was no contract. Go on to the next employer and good luck.
