Salem International University has officially been approved to begin a new Practical Nursing program in its state-of-the-art nursing suite.
SIU hosted an open house on Saturday afternoon allowing interested students to tour the interactive facility.

The suite is modeled from a functioning hospital with mannequins that will prepare future students for real-life scenarios.
The program requires 28 to 32 hours per week of instruction and can be completed in twelve months.

"We also have the SIM man, we have a maternity Noelle that is a birthing mannequin that actually has a baby, a neoNate. So we're trying to maximize those opportunities. A lot of colleges are putting in SIM men, but to have a lab that's built out like a hospital setting, I think we're probably unique in the state," Theresa Cowan, the director of nursing education at SIU said.

The SIU nursing program is currently accepting applications and are hoping to take on 80 new students for their two programs combine.
