Huron School of Nursing student Suzanne Pasanen has a final Wednesday night, but she said studying is the last thing on her mind.
"I feel like I can't think about the information on the final because I'm more nervous about my future," Pasanen said.
Pasanen is one of 350 nursing students who received an internal message saying her school could be closing.
"It said that we will be closing January 2011 and we have to transition to Tri-C," Pasanen said.
Now, she worries about graduation, financial assistance and if she'll have the same instructors at the Cuyahoga Community College. She said other students are posting their concerns on a class blog.
"They are saying if they wanted to go to Tri-C, they would have started off there in the Tri-C nursing program," she said.
The Cleveland Clinic runs the Huron School of Nursing out of Huron Hospital. No one from the Cleveland Clinic would go on camera, but a spokeswoman said these plans are not definite.
However, she said they are in serious discussions to transition the nursing school to the Cuyahoga Community College.
Officials said there would be benefits to the students because they could earn an associates degree from Tri-C and the Huron School of Nursing can only give a diploma. Also, tuition at Tri-C would be lower and the community college is expanding their facilities.
The spokeswoman told ONN’s Cristin Severance the students would also still get clinical experience in a hospital. Officials said this would be the logical next step for the program.
Pasanen is still nervous about what comes next.
"It is all about what our future holds. How can you uproot somebody and then not say this is a guarantee. We have no guarantees about what going to happen in January," she said.
