    Question Return to work

Hello everyone. It's been awhile since I was here last. I would like to present a question and get some feedback on a nursing issue. I have been a RN for 16 yrs. Mainly LTAC, Step-down and tele. I have not worked in about 2 1/2 yrs. I still hold an active LA RN license. I am ready to return to work but I am afraid that since I haven't worked in awhile this is going to create problems. I don't feel there are any skills that I can't pick back up quickly once back on the floor. I may be open to the possibility of relocating if necessary. Also, are there any alternative opportunities out there for nurses who may not want to go back to a hospital/floor setting. I would like something where I will have patient contact. No QA or insurance physicals, etc. I would love to work with traumatic brain injury patients or "at risk" youth/substance abuse. I appreciate any feedback or ideas that you can give. Thanks and I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

There are plenty of opportunities out there for floor nurses. Have you thought about travel nursing? Strange to take off work for 2 1/2 years though.... I can see why you would be worried about returning. On the job orientation usually will polish up any rusty edges though. Hope you were able to find a job you like.

    Talking Return to work

Thanks for the posts. I have not gone back to work yet. I don't know what I really want to do in the nursing area. I am up for suggestions! I would like to stay around the Shreveport, LA area, but not in Shreveport. An hour or two away would be fine. I have maintained my LA license. So if anyone out there is ready to hire someone who has lots of experience but no recent experience. I am very confident in my abilities and skills, just need a little polishing. I can't travel right now cuz I don't have one year current experience. I am ready to work, knocking on the door, just need someone to open it and give me a chance!

just apply for a job in the city you want, and when you interview, let them know you need a thorough orientation, since you've been off for awhile. good luck!
