Andrea Lindell is retiring as dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Cincinnati.

Lindell has been dean of the college for 20 years and worked in nursing for 46 years. She will leave at the end of December.

In a message to students and professors Monday morning, Lindell said now was the time to leave as UC President Greg Williams is implementing an ambitious new master plan.

"I believe a new nursing leader can bring fresh vision, creativity, goals and innovation," she wrote.

The retirement leaves new Provost Santa Ono with two high-profile positions to fill in UC's health care operations, which make up about half of its overall $1 billion budget.

Ono already has launched a search for a new dean for the College of Medicine.

The College-Conservatory of Music also is operating with an interim dean but Ono might delay a search there until next year.
