Loyola University New Orleans School of Nursing has expanded its Doctor of Nursing Practice program for post-masters nursing students who wish to excel in an executive leadership career. The D.N.P. program already offers a doctorate degree for master’s nurse practitioner students who wish to specialize in women's health, gerontology, pediatrics and family/adult care.

“Organizational leadership is critical to providing quality patient care,” said Ann Cary, Ph.D., director of Loyola’s School of Nursing. “Our graduates will assume and excel in executive leadership positions that strategically change systems and policy to optimize the delivery of quality health care.”

One of the core competencies of Loyola’s D.N.P. program focuses on cutting-edge sciences that instill the crucial leadership qualities required in today’s highly complex and challenging health care field. To achieve this, the program provides leadership assessments, a leadership coach experience, constant professional feedback, and the execution of a personal leadership plan.

“The executive leadership concentration provides our graduates the tools necessary to institute change, provide adaptive leadership and to ensure that the best science is brought to the patient’s bedside in any health care system,” Cary said.

The School of Nursing is currently accepting applications for the 2011 class. The final application deadline is Feb. 1. Application and detailed program information are available at http://css.loyno.edu/nursing/doctor-nursing-practice.
