The article paints a nice picture of Peer assistance/Diversion programs however in reality most of the programs are still very punative. I beleive they should be run by people in Recovery who understand addiction. I know from experience that "Normies" (Non addicts) just don't understand. Most of the programs are run by people who have limited experience in addiction treatment and no compassion. I may the decision early in the process to just keep my head down and do what I was told. While my recovery has been very empowering - the process of dealing with the boards was based more on humiliation and punishment rather than actual recovery. The process ultimately saved my life and for that I am grateful.
But I see so many nurses drop out of the program and lose their license even when they are sober.
Something is wrong with that picture/
Peace and Namaste
